Anthropic Launches Claude Fable 5 and Mythos 5, Bringing Mythos-Class AI Capabilities to the Public with Advanced Safeguards

Anthropic has officially announced the launch of Claude Fable 5, marking the debut of its highly anticipated “Mythos-class” artificial intelligence architecture for general public availability. Alongside it, the company rolled out Claude Mythos 5 a specialized, unrestricted version designed for vetted infrastructure defenders. By engineering innovative real-time safety classifiers, Anthropic has unlocked state-of-the-art computational power for mainstream enterprises while establishing proactive guardrails against potential high-risk misuse.

Historically, Mythos-level intelligence was strictly limited to participating organizations within Anthropic’s restricted cybersecurity initiative, Project Glasswing. The introduction of Claude Fable 5 represents a major milestone in democratic AI access, delivering unprecedented logic, multi-stage reasoning, and extensive context handling to global businesses.

A Step-Change in Autonomous Execution and Logic

Claude Fable 5 sets a new industry standard across essential operational benchmarks. Built to handle grueling, asynchronous workflows, the model operates independently over extended periods without requiring continuous human prompts. According to internal evaluations, Fable 5 registers a performance jump of more than 10% over the previous flagship model, Claude Opus 4.8, establishing clear dominance in software engineering, scientific research, and complex knowledge-work tasks.

Early corporate testing underscores the tangible return on investment driven by the model’s extreme accuracy and token efficiency. During initial testing, Stripe reported that Fable 5 compressed months of engineering into days. In a 50-million-line Ruby codebase, the model performed a codebase-wide migration in a day that would otherwise have taken a whole team over two months by hand. Furthermore, Fable 5 demonstrates remarkable efficiency on Cognition’s FrontierCode evaluation, which assesses whether models can pass difficult coding tasks while meeting the standards of high-quality production codebases; the model secured the highest score among frontier models, even at medium operational effort.

Advanced Multimodal Vision Capabilities

Beyond raw logic, Claude Fable 5 features enhanced multimodal vision processing. It can seamlessly interpret, cross-reference, and analyze dense, structured data such as architectural schematics, financial charts, and complex tables nested inside heavy document files and PDFs. This visual acuity makes it highly valuable for research-heavy verticals including finance, legal council, analytics, and architecture. In engineering pipelines, Fable 5 can design complete assets and actively use its vision features to critique its own programmatic outputs against predefined visual goals.

Innovative Safety Routing and Data Protection

In order to ensure the security of the intelligence delivered through this platform, Anthropic designed a safety classifier system within Claude Fable 5. As soon as the query is detected to be from any of the hazardous categories such as cybersecurity threats, chemistry-based dangerous compounds, or biological dangers, the system will block the response route, but does not stop the process; rather, the request will seamlessly be redirected to Claude Opus 4.8, giving the user a safe and compliant response, along with being notified about it. The safety settings are kept very conservative; however, initial tests suggest that at least 95% of the Fable 5 sessions are handled by the model itself.

To further ensure systemic safety, Anthropic is mandating a strict 30-day data retention policy for all traffic running across Mythos-class models across both first- and third-party surfaces. This operational data will not be utilized to train future Claude iterations; rather, it is designed to help engineers identify broader patterns of platform misuse that are otherwise invisible in singular prompt exchanges.

Claude Mythos 5 for Specialized Security Professionals

Concurrently, Anthropic has unveiled Claude Mythos 5, an upgraded iteration of its prior preview model. Maintained without the broad consumer safety classifiers, Mythos 5 is designed exclusively for critical cybersecurity defense and life sciences research. Deployed initially via Project Glasswing and in close collaboration with the United States government, it allows vetted specialists to leverage the world’s most potent cybersecurity AI capabilities for vulnerability discovery, drug design, and biodefense screening.

In internal biological testing, Anthropic‘s protein design experts accelerated aspects of the drug design process by around ten times. In one example, they found that Mythos 5, with protein design and bioinformatics tools but no human assistance, matches or beats skilled human operators. Proving its analytical depth, one autonomous Mythos hypothesis a novel mechanism for an E. coli protein was recently corroborated in a study from a lab independently working on the same problem.
