Vultr, SUSE, and Supermicro Unveil Unified Cloud-to-Edge Architecture to Scale Global AI Operations

The largest privately held cloud computing provider, Vultr, has joined hands with SUSE and Supermicro to build a dedicated and strategic architecture for AI deployment and management. The new architecture is specially developed to simplify the deployment and management of AI applications across highly distributed environments.

With the development of AI becoming more closely tied to the location where the data is produced, including factories and retail outlets, companies are faced with issues concerning latency, cost, and efficiency. In order to tackle these issues, the three firms have come up with an architecture that links regional clouds with the network edge.

The initiative acknowledges a critical shift in the tech landscape: for real-time AI applications, the traditional model of routing all data to a centralized cloud is no longer sustainable.

The new solution optimizes infrastructure through three primary layers:

1. Global Cloud and Network Periphery Utilizing Vultr’s 33 global data center regions, enterprises can now deploy Kubernetes-based AI clusters in closer proximity to their end-users. Through the Cluster API (CAPI), technical teams are empowered to scale environments programmatically. These environments utilize high-performance NVIDIA GPUs to handle intensive inference tasks whenever local edge capacity is exceeded.

2. Regional Edge Infrastructure Designed for distributed environments requiring ultra-low latency and minimal power consumption, Supermicro’s portfolio of CPU and GPU-compatible servers provides a customizable hardware foundation. Validated with SUSE Linux Enterprise Server and SUSE Kubernetes Engine (RKE2 and K3s), these systems simplify the orchestration of distributed agents and real-time inference. This allows for immediate processing of computer vision and sensor data at the source.

3. Integrated Control Plane To manage thousands of remote sites without manual intervention, SUSE Edge featuring SUSE Rancher Prime and Fleet—implements GitOps-driven workflows. When paired with SUSE AI, it ensures total consistency across the software stack, including security protocols, model updates, and configurations. For specialized industrial needs, SUSE Industrial Edge facilitates private, on-site deployments integrated directly with internal operating systems.
