DNSFilter has appointed cybersecurity veteran Justin Foster as its new Chief Technology Officer (CTO), strengthening its technology leadership as the company expands its DNS-first security platform into AI governance, behavioral analytics, and threat intelligence.
Foster brings more than 25 years of information security experience, with expertise spanning cloud and network security, security analytics, and encryption. He joins DNSFilter from Forescout, where he served as CTO and oversaw the company’s research and development organization.
Foster joined Forescout through its acquisition of Cysiv, which he co-founded and led as CTO. Earlier in his career, he held technical, product management, and go-to-market positions at Trend Micro and Third Brigade.
In his new role, Foster will help lead DNSFilter’s technology and product evolution as the company scales its recently launched LUMINATE by DNSFilter platform. The platform brings together advanced filtering, behavioral analytics, AI governance and controls, encryption and privacy, and threat intelligence through a unified DNS-first security approach.

The appointment comes as organizations face growing challenges in managing unauthorized AI applications and protecting enterprise environments from emerging cyber threats. Employees are increasingly adopting AI tools, often without formal approval or adequate security oversight, creating new risks for IT and security teams.
DNSFilter aims to address these challenges by identifying threats and managing access at the DNS layer, where internet connections begin. Its platform serves more than 57,000 organizations worldwide and supports over 100 million users.
“Shadow AI is one of the biggest gaps security teams face today, and it starts with the first connection a user makes,” said Justin Foster, CTO of DNSFilter.
With Foster joining its executive team, DNSFilter aims to strengthen its technology foundation and accelerate the development of security capabilities designed for an increasingly AI-driven enterprise landscape.
