Saudi Arabia Advances Sovereign AI Capacity as HUMAIN, AMD, and Cisco Bring Production Infrastructure Online

High-performance AI compute powered by AMD Instinct™ MI355X accelerators, AMD EPYC™ server processors, and Cisco Silicon One AI networking has gone live in Saudi Arabia. HUMAIN, a Public Investment Fund (PIF) entity focused on full-stack artificial intelligence solutions, announced the operational milestone alongside joint venture partners AMD and Cisco.

The initial deployment establishes production-ready AI compute capacity serving commercial enterprises, research entities, and public sector organizations within the Kingdom and internationally. Powered by the Cisco N9000 Series system with the help of Cisco Silicon One and 800G optics, the infrastructure provides an AI-ready and low-latency network. Through such an architecture, HUMAIN will provide GPU-as-a-Service scalability that is optimized for both large-scale model training and inference.

Based on the current installation, the companies revealed their plans to start a 250-megawatt expansion project that is set to launch in 2027 and will come into use in the latter part of that year. In the next phase, the project will be supported by next-generation AMD Instinct MI400 Series GPUs, AMD EPYC processors, AMD ROCm™ software platform, and further Cisco network infrastructure. Driven by rising market demand for sovereign cloud environments, the joint venture remains positioned to deploy up to 1 gigawatt of total AI infrastructure capacity in Saudi Arabia by 2030.

Architectural Focus: Delivering Sovereign and Open AI Capabilities

Collaborative architecture seeks to tackle the problem of increasing demand for AI infrastructure that is sovereign. Through the use of open software ecosystems, open-weight models, and local data centers, the platform enables enterprises and institutions to exercise full control over their data sovereignty and regulations.

Key structural components of the deployment include:

  • Compute Performance: AMD Instinct GPUs feature parallel processing capability built specifically for complex generative AI and analysis tasks.
  • Open Architecture: AMD ROCm open software stack architecture offers vendor-neutral flexibility and no vendor lock-in, allowing for ease of porting models.
  • Fast Data Paths: High bandwidth interconnect capabilities offered by Cisco Silicon One and 800G networking equipment ensure low latency and deterministic packet delivery needed for large-scale communication between multiple GPUs.
  • Local Control: Infrastructure in country deployment enables organizations to meet data residency requirements of national governments and develop models that take into account the unique languages and cultural context in which the models would operate.

With the combination of open standard hardware and software, the partnership seeks to offer researchers and enterprise developers the computational power to build sovereign AI systems.
