ModMed has appointed co-founder Dan Cane as its first Chief AI Officer, reinforcing the healthcare technology company’s focus on expanding artificial intelligence across its products and business operations.

Announced on October 28, 2026, the leadership change places Cane at the center of ModMed’s AI strategy as the company works to transform clinical, financial, and administrative workflows for specialty medical practices.

In his new role, Cane will oversee AI strategy across ModMed’s products and internal operations, with direct executive responsibility for its revenue cycle management (RCM) AI platform. The company aims to use AI to help medical practices address claim denials, accelerate claim resolution, and reduce the administrative work involved in reimbursement.

Cane will also continue leading ModMed’s internal AI transformation, helping teams rethink how work is performed and applying those lessons across the organization.

“AI expands what we can deliver on that promise. I’m excited to continue focusing my time on building that future with our teams—from helping practices navigate the complexity of reimbursement to reimagining how we develop and deliver technology,” Cane said.

The announcement is part of a broader leadership restructuring. Joe Harpaz has been named CEO, transitioning from his co-CEO position, while Celine Kaiser becomes Chief Operating Officer. Co-founder Dr. Michael Sherling will continue leading clinical AI and strategic initiatives as Chief Medical and Strategy Officer.

ModMed’s strategy focuses on applying AI across three major areas: revenue cycle management, clinical care, and patient engagement. The company is also developing an agentic AI platform intended to simplify patient interactions and reduce administrative pressure on front-office staff, with a planned rollout in 2027.

The changes reflect a broader shift in healthcare technology toward AI systems that can support practical workflows rather than simply introduce new tools. For medical practices, the potential benefits include less administrative work, more efficient operations, and more time for patient care.

With Cane leading company-wide AI strategy, ModMed is positioning AI as a central part of its next phase of healthcare innovation.
