The Accenture, Vodafone Procure & Connect, and SAP companies have collaborated to conduct a pilot project involving the application of humanoid robots in warehouse management, thus making great steps in introducing the concept of “physical AI” in business enterprises. The pilot is being conducted in the warehouse owned by Vodafone Procure & Connect located in Duisburg, Germany. It reveals that humanoid robots could operate without necessitating significant infrastructure changes; thus, helping to overcome one of the obstacles to automation implementation.

As part of the project, robots are connected to SAP’s Extended Warehouse Management system and perform inspections in a completely autonomous mode. They do the visual inspection within the warehouse premises and contribute to making the project more effective. One should not fail to mention that the project itself is a manifestation of the current trend within the whole industry to apply artificial intelligence-based robotics to address issues such as lack of workforce or rising costs. While humanoid robots have started out as test projects, initiatives such as these will serve to prove the value and feasibility of using them on a larger scale within company systems. In addition to helping to improve current processes within warehouses, the pilot will help identify new opportunities and approaches to automation that can be implemented by companies in the future.
