Thomas Biedermann has joined Star as Global Head of Media & Advertising, taking on a leadership role as agencies and brands rethink how marketing, data, technology, and artificial intelligence work together.
Star announced the appointment on LinkedIn, saying Biedermann brings more than two decades of leadership experience across both the agency and consumer sides of the industry. In his new role, he will work on strengthening agency partnerships while also leading Star’s expansion into direct services for brands.
The appointment comes as the marketing industry faces a significant shift in how brands manage data, technology, and customer experiences. Companies are increasingly taking greater control of their marketing operations while looking for ways to connect fragmented systems and workflows.
Artificial intelligence is adding another layer to this transformation. AI is being integrated into areas such as campaign planning, customer insights, content development, media operations, and marketing analytics. However, adopting AI effectively requires more than adding new tools. Organizations also need connected technology environments, reliable data, clear processes, and teams capable of turning AI capabilities into practical business applications.

Biedermann’s experience across agency and consumer environments is relevant to this changing landscape. His background includes work around marketing, innovation, customer experience, and AI. He has also been involved in discussions around human-centered approaches to AI and how businesses can move from technology concepts to solutions that address real operational needs.
In a statement shared following the announcement, Biedermann said that while many companies have developed an understanding of AI, fewer can take it from strategy through design and into systems that agencies and brands use in everyday operations. He identified reducing complexity across fragmented marketing ecosystems as a central focus of his new role.
His appointment reflects a broader change in the advertising and marketing services industry. As brands gain more control over their data and technology stacks, traditional agency relationships are being complemented by more integrated technology and operational services.
The growing influence of AI is also changing expectations around marketing leadership. Organizations increasingly need professionals who understand both the strategic side of marketing and the technical infrastructure required to execute it.
Biedermann’s new position places him at that intersection, with responsibility spanning media, advertising, agency relationships, and direct brand services as the industry continues adapting to an increasingly AI-driven marketing environment.
