Wasabi Technologies completes acquisition of Curio AI, a platform powered by AI and machine learning to deliver better search to media and entertainment publishers.

Wasabi Technologies, the hot cloud storage specialist , announces the acquisition of Curio AI from GrayMeta , Inc. This acquisition includes the intellectual property and visionary team behind Curio, including GrayMeta CEO Aaron Edell, who will join Wasabi as Senior Vice President of AI and Machine Learning. As part of this acquisition, Wasabi will integrate Curio AI technology into a new class of AI-powered intelligent storage for the media and entertainment industry in spring 2024.

The video sector represents one of the biggest opportunities for the storage sector. Indeed, hundreds of exabytes of video archives exist on aging tape systems and many other exabytes are generated each year by cinema, television, sporting events, news, advertising and communications. business. Without searchable metadata, it is extremely time-consuming to find specific video segments at any time.

The acquisition of Curio AI will create a second-by-second index of videos stored in Wasabi’s cloud. This is where AI comes in. It is able to find specific faces, logos, objects and even voices. Without it, finding exactly specific segments requires tedious and time-consuming manual effort. This acquisition will enable the company to revolutionize media storage and provide Wasabi customers with the metadata needed to manage tons of digital assets at unparalleled speed.

“Wasabi is now on an exciting trajectory. The advantage of being a hyper-focused company is that we can lead the industry in price, performance, reliability and innovation. With the acquisition of Curio AI, we are ready to launch the industry’s first AI-powered intelligent cloud storage. Like Wasabi’s standard cloud storage, our storage powered by this technology will be simple, fast, reliable and inexpensive. The acquisition of Curio AI, which represents a first for Wasabi, will enable our customers to store data, locate it and retrieve it instantly.” David Friend, CEO and co-founder of Wasabi Technologies.

“AI-powered storage will enable Wasabi customers to instantly find what they need across millions of hours of footage and unlock the value of their archives. I believe this is the most important advancement for the storage industry since the invention of object storage. Moving forward on this project with the Wasabi team represents a major opportunity for Curio AI to revolutionize the future of the media and entertainment sector.” Aaron Edell, Senior Vice President of AI and Machine Learning, Wasabi Technologies.
