Spinnaker Support has appointed Rex Young as Chief Information Officer (CIO) as the company expands its global operations and increases its focus on technology modernization, cybersecurity, data, and artificial intelligence.
Young will report to CEO Matt Stava and lead Spinnaker Support’s global technology strategy. His responsibilities will include modernizing technology platforms, strengthening data and analytics capabilities, enhancing cybersecurity, and advancing the company’s AI initiatives.
Young brings more than 25 years of technology leadership experience. Before joining Spinnaker Support, he served as CIO and Chief Information Security Officer at SambaSafety, where he led enterprise IT, information security, digital transformation, AI enablement, and technology modernization initiatives. He previously served as CIO at LogRhythm.
His appointment comes as enterprise technology organizations face growing pressure to modernize infrastructure while maintaining strong security and operational resilience. For companies managing complex environments, technology strategy increasingly involves more than maintaining IT systems. Data, cybersecurity, cloud infrastructure, automation, and AI are becoming interconnected parts of business operations.

Spinnaker Support plans to further develop its use of AI through tools including Navigator and Spinnaker Intelligence, with the aim of improving issue resolution and helping teams make more data-driven decisions. Young’s responsibilities will cover both internal technology operations and systems that can directly support customers.
The company is also expanding its global footprint. Spinnaker says it serves more than 1,300 clients worldwide and has recently expanded its presence in South Africa. Its VMware business has also grown as enterprises navigate changes to VMware licensing and support arrangements.
Young’s background in both IT leadership and cybersecurity is particularly relevant as organizations increase their use of AI. While AI can automate processes and help teams analyze information faster, broader adoption also introduces questions around security, access controls, governance, and potential risks to enterprise systems.
His appointment reflects a wider evolution in the CIO role. Technology leaders are increasingly expected to connect infrastructure modernization with business strategy while ensuring that emerging technologies such as AI are adopted securely and responsibly.
For Spinnaker Support, Young’s arrival comes at a time when technology, cybersecurity, and AI are becoming increasingly important to scaling operations and supporting customers across a changing enterprise software landscape.
