Anthropic, a pioneer in frontier artificial intelligence, announced the acquisition of Stainless, an industry-leading provider of software development kit (SDK) generation and Model Context Protocol (MCP) server tooling. The strategic transaction marks a decisive pivot as the artificial intelligence landscape transitions from responsive informational models to autonomous enterprise agents capable of complex execution systems whose real-world utility hinges entirely on their ability to seamlessly interface with external digital environments.
Established in 2022, Stainless has built a reputation for engineering high-performance developer infrastructure. The company has been the backbone of every Anthropic SDK that has been developed to date, ever since the development of the Claude API. Apart from the fact that it has had an ongoing relationship with Anthropic, many companies use Stainless for the automatic creation of production ready SDKs, CLIs and MCP servers. The software that is used to make these SDKs, CLIs and MCP servers acts as the backbone of interacting with an API.

Bridging the Gap Between AI Agents and Enterprise APIs
Stainless solves an important issue in the software development chain by converting a standard API definition to highly optimized SDKs in multiple languages such as TypeScript, Python, Go, Java, and Kotlin automatically. Every SDK that is created is optimized for speed and efficiency as well as for integration with its own language’s coding environment.
“Stainless has shaped how developers experience the Claude API since the start, and it’s been great to work with them on that,” said Katelyn Lesse, Head of Platform Engineering at Anthropic. “Agents are only as useful as what they can connect to. We’re excited to bring the Stainless team into Anthropic to advance Claude’s ability to connect to data and tools.”
Accelerating the Evolution of the Claude Developer Platform
The consolidation of the two engineering teams is poised to accelerate the deployment of highly connective enterprise AI. Anthropic originally developed the Model Context Protocol (MCP) to standardize and simplify agent connectivity. Bringing Stainless’s specific expertise in-house allows the Claude Platform to significantly lower the integration friction for external developers, making it easier for Claude-powered agents to securely reach, analyze, and act upon third-party data silos and corporate systems of record.
“I started Stainless because SDKs deserve as much care as the APIs they wrap. Anthropic was one of the first teams to bet on this with us,” said Alex Rattray, Founder and CEO of Stainless. “We have been watching what developers have built on Claude over the last few years, which made bringing our teams together an easy decision. The team gets to keep doing the work we love, on the platform where it matters most.”
With the acquisition successfully finalized, the integrated teams will continue to co-develop open tooling, enhance the Claude API ecosystem, and build repeatable infrastructure designed to turn conversational models into powerful, action-oriented enterprise systems.
