Okta, Inc., the independent identity company, has officially announced the availability of its comprehensive architectural blueprint that promises to secure the transition to the ‘Agentic Era.’ As the complex workflows of organizations are increasingly managed by autonomous AI agents, Okta is helping businesses with the necessary framework to maintain oversight over these ‘non-human identities.’
Navigating the Identity Shift: From Humans to Agents
The rise of AI agents—autonomous entities capable of executing terminal commands, accessing file systems, and performing multi-step workflows—has created a new security frontier. While these “superagents” offer immense productivity gains, they also introduce significant risks if left ungoverned. Recent industry data reveals a critical gap: although 88% of organizations have reported suspected or confirmed security incidents involving AI agents, only 22% currently manage these agents as independent, identity-bearing entities.
To bridge this gap, Okta’s new blueprint addresses the three defining challenges for modern CISOs and CTOs:
Visibility: Locating all known and unknown agents.
Connectivity: Controlling which tools and databases agents can access.
Execution: Monitoring and authorizing specific actions in real-time.
Introducing Okta for AI Agents
To make this process seamless, Okta launched a solution called Okta for AI Agents, a dedicated solution designed to become generally available by April 30, 2026. This solution enables organizations to treat AI agents as “first-class identities,” providing them with a unified security fabric to prevent the proliferation of “Shadow AI.”
“Okta for AI Agents is probably the most important product we’ve ever made,” said Todd McKinnon, Chief Executive Officer and co-founder of Okta.
Key Features of the Secure Agentic Framework
The platform introduces several industry-first capabilities designed to provide granular control over the autonomous workforce:
Universal Directory Expansion: Okta is evolving its Universal Directory to include AI agents as non-human identities, ensuring every agent has a verifiable lifecycle from onboarding to decommissioning.
Enhanced Integration Network (OIN): The Okta Integration Network now features dedicated support for major AI platforms including Google Vertex AI, DataRobot, and Boomi, allowing teams to import and govern agents with clear human ownership.
Universal Logout (The “Kill Switch”): In the event of an agent deviating from its mission or accessing sensitive data, Okta provides the ability to instantly revoke all access tokens across the enterprise ecosystem.
API Access Management: The platform enforces “least-privilege” access through dynamic evaluation, preventing unauthorized lateral movement by agents within the network.

Industry Perspectives
The necessity for a collaborative approach to agentic security is echoed by industry leaders who are already integrating these new standards.
“Securing the agentic enterprise will require industry-wide collaboration,” said Carl Siva, Chief Information Security Officer, Boomi. “By combining Boomi’s expertise in agentic connectivity and modern integration with Okta’s identity leadership, we are delivering a unified security and governance layer that helps organizations harden their security posture while maintaining auditable visibility into every agent’s actions.”
The shift toward agent-centric operations is already being felt by global enterprises. Adeline Giritharan, Senior Product Manager, Enterprise Identity at Workday, noted the long-standing value of this partnership: “Okta has been a strong partner for us for over a decade. They support our customer and workforce identity needs, and make secure identity possible.”
A Future-Proof Identity Strategy
As organizations move away from rogue, invisible autonomous agents toward a model of accountability, Okta remains committed to being the neutral identity layer for the entire tech stack.
“Our strong performance this fiscal year was fueled by the continued trust of the world’s largest organizations and the accelerating adoption of our new products, reinforcing the value of our unified identity platform,” said Todd McKinnon. “As the only independent and neutral identity platform, we are uniquely positioned to secure every identity – from humans to AI agents – while providing our customers across the public and private sector the flexibility to innovate with confidence in the early stages of this new era.”
