Ahrefs, a leading marketing platform, announced custom AI prompt tracking in Brand Radar, a new way for teams to monitor how their brand appears in AI-generated answers across platforms like ChatGPT, Gemini, and Perplexity.
As AI assistants become a mainstream discovery channel, teams are increasingly trying to understand whether their brand shows up in AI-generated responses at all. OpenAI reports that ChatGPT now reaches hundreds of millions of users weekly, while industry analyses from Similarweb estimate it processes hundreds of billions of prompts annually. In practice, visibility is difficult to measure, as AI answers change frequently, platforms don’t share query data, and the same question can surface different recommendations from one moment to the next.

While Brand Radar’s native tracking focuses on prompts derived from popular, high-volume topics, giving teams broad coverage across AI-driven discovery, custom prompts let teams monitor the long tail: the specific, nuanced questions people ask when comparing options or looking for solutions. By tracking those exact questions across AI platforms, teams get a clearer view of real visibility without being misled by isolated responses.
“Custom prompts are about granularity,” said Tim Soulo, Chief Marketing Officer at Ahrefs. “Brand Radar’s native index gives brands a broad view across the most commonly searched topics, but custom prompts let teams get much more specific about where they want to gauge their AI visibility.”
Selecting a set of prompts to track in AI is not trivial. As part of this work, Ahrefs is building toward workflows that help teams generate and expand prompt lists, providing a more comprehensive and unbiased view of how their brand appears in AI responses.
