Cortex AI Gateway and AI security innovations are some of the latest innovations from Snowflake meant to build a strong foundation for agent interoperability across the enterprise ecosystem. Organizations are facing a number of security, governance, and cost management challenges because of increasing AI agents which are working on isolated systems. The main role of Cortex AI Gateway is to be a control plane which will orchestrate, govern, and optimize the work of first-party agents (for example, Snowflake CoWork and Snowflake CoCo) and third-party agents (Claude Code and Cursor). The company has taken advantage of the capabilities from its acquisition of Natoma to work in partnership with security companies such as 1Password, Aembit, Linx Security, Okta, SailPoint, and Saviynt to give zero trust security, end-to-end activity logging, and task-scoped permissions to safely govern cross-platform agent activities.

In addition, the gateway offers strong cost management by giving full visibility of model usage, intelligent request routing, and spending limits to curb unnecessary consumption of AI services. Emphasizing the necessity of secure collaboration, Mayank Upadhyay, Chief Security and Trust Officer at Snowflake, stated, “Enterprise AI is moving from data interoperability to agent interoperability, and security has to be at the center of that shift.” He added, “Agent interoperability only works when enterprises can trust how agents from different platforms access data, invoke tools, and take action on behalf of users.
