Synopsys, Inc. has introduced new autonomous agentic Artificial Intelligence (AI) workflows tailored for semiconductor design. Developed in strategic collaboration with Microsoft, these solutions are currently available for evaluation via Microsoft Discovery, with advanced chip giant AMD actively testing the technology to power its upcoming product cycles.
The announcement was unveiled at the 2026 DAC Chips to Systems Conference, where Synopsys demonstrated how its proprietary AgentEngineer™ technology expands agentic AI from standard task-level automation to complex, long-running engineering operations across the entire silicon life cycle.
Autonomous Workflows Available on Microsoft Discovery
In order to handle increasing architectural complexity of modern microchips, Synopsys has developed two specific autonomous EDA workflows under the Microsoft Discovery platform:
• Full-Autonomous Debug Closure Workflow: Intended for automatic verification and root cause analysis (RCA), the system uses AI agents tailored specifically for certain domains and tasks in order to identify the problems and perform debug operations. In initial benchmarks, there is a proven improvement in time needed for debug cycles by 25% to 40%, thus eliminating weeks of work done manually and increasing the reliability of the silicon produced.
• Full-Autonomous Implementation and Closure Workflow: Using Synopsys implementation agents together with Fusion Compiler under Microsoft Azure, the system automatically tunes up QoR (Quality of Results) closure processes.
This launch represents the first set of commercial EDA applications hosted on Microsoft Discovery, building on earlier joint initiatives including an agentic specification-to-RTL pipeline.

Executive Perspectives and Industry Collaboration
“AI is reshaping engineering. Together with Microsoft and Synopsys, we’re enabling a new generation of AI-assisted design workflows that augment human ingenuity with intelligent automation and optimization,” said Alex Starr, AMD Corporate Fellow. “AI driven workflows powered by Discovery and leveraging AI tooling, such as RCA with deep EDA domain knowledge, are a paradigm we see accelerating scaling and deployment, helping improve both design velocity and overall silicon quality.”
“We designed Microsoft Discovery to accelerate scientific and engineering innovation with AI, and chip design is an ideal application for Discovery as it addresses one of the most complex engineering challenges on the planet,” said Aseem Datar, Corporate Vice President (CVP) of Product Innovation for Microsoft Discovery and Quantum. “We are excited about Synopsys’ open, interoperable approach to their agentic platform and the collaborative effort with Synopsys and AMD to make these agentic AI EDA workflows the first available on Discovery.”
“As AI-powered systems and hyperscale computing push silicon complexity to unprecedented levels, engineering teams can no longer afford traditional tradeoffs between performance, quality, and development speed,” said Ravi Subramanian, Chief Product Management Officer, Synopsys. “Synopsys is addressing this challenge by applying AI capabilities with increasing levels of autonomy to accelerate and transform silicon engineering.”
Live Demonstrations at DAC 2026
Synopsys is presenting live demonstrations of these agentic AI capabilities at Booth #631 during the 2026 Design Automation Conference (DAC). Prospective enterprise clients can request access to evaluate these autonomous agentic workflows directly through Synopsys.
