Lightmatter veteran brings deep technology expertise to help Code Metal expand its development platform and product portfolio
Code Metal, the leading company in AI-powered development workflows for the edge, announced the appointment of Ayon Basumallik as Senior Vice President of Engineering and Product. Basumallik, formerly Vice President of Machine Learning and Software Engineering at Lightmatter, brings extensive leadership experience, having played a key role in driving strategy and scaling operations at Lightmatter, which recently achieved a $4.4 billion valuation.

At Lightmatter, Basumallik led the development of the Idiom Software Stack, powering the world’s first photonic computer capable of running production machine learning workloads. Prior to Lightmatter, Basumallik was an architect for the MATLAB language at MathWorks Inc. He led the development of the language core that formed the basis of multiple releases of MATLAB. Basumallik’s ability to build solutions from low-level systems to APIs will further enhance Code Metal’s ability to convert high-level languages, such as Python and MATLAB, into hardware-optimized formats like VHDL, Verilog, and embedded C.
