Ingenza – a world-leading engineering biology CRDMO based in Edinburgh, Scotland – has announced the launch of UNVAIL, an AI/ML algorithm that consistently uncovers unique biocatalysts and other proteins with properties superior to current industrial benchmarks.
UNVAIL searches public sequence datasets to identify distantly-related analogues to target proteins, then uses accurate predictions of solubility, structure, beneficial mutations and other key features to identify those likely to demonstrate significantly enhanced activity, stability and/or solubility. The technology is already providing Ingenza’s customers in targeted industries with previously uncharacterised, high-performing and patentable proteins. Applications range from pharmaceuticals and chemicals to foods, personal care and sustainable fuel production. These novel proteins deliver superior performance and product yields, improve cost-competitiveness, and help to avoid intellectual property constraints associated with sequence homology.
