Datamaran has appointed Bert Sinnema as its new Chief Technology Officer, placing him in charge of the company’s global engineering and product teams as it expands the use of artificial intelligence across its risk and governance platform.
Based at Datamaran’s office in Leeuwarden, Netherlands, Sinnema will oversee engineering and product operations, including the company’s engineering hub in Valencia, Spain. His responsibilities will cover product vision, technology strategy, architecture, delivery, and the roadmap for future development.
The appointment comes as Datamaran moves beyond its earlier focus on ESG issue management toward a broader AI-powered governance approach. The company is increasing its use of AI to help organizations process information related to risks, regulations, and stakeholder expectations, areas that are becoming more complex as regulatory requirements continue to change.
Sinnema brings more than 12 years of experience in product engineering leadership across startups, scale-ups, and technology platforms. Most recently, he served as Vice President of Engineering at cybersecurity company Eye Security, where he built the product and engineering organization and expanded its international team across multiple hubs.

Before Eye Security, Sinnema spent more than three years at HackerOne, eventually becoming Director of Engineering. Earlier, he founded SmartLockr, a secure communications and privacy platform, where he served as CTO and helped expand the company across three countries.
For Datamaran, the leadership change reflects the growing importance of connecting AI development with product engineering and governance requirements. Rather than treating AI as a standalone capability, technology leaders are increasingly responsible for integrating it into products while maintaining the architecture, security, and scalability needed for enterprise use.
Sinnema said his focus will be at the intersection of product engineering and AI, bringing his experience in building and scaling technology organizations to Datamaran’s next stage.
