Synology has officially introduced ActiveProtect Manager 2.0 (APM 2.0), which has major improvements for its range of ActiveProtect backup products that aim to ease the backup process and improve multi-cloud resiliency. The software update increases backup protection for a wide variety of environments such as Amazon EC2, Azure VM, Google Workspace, Proxmox VE, and Nutanix AHV while supporting recovery and cloud restore capabilities for disaster recovery purposes. To counter ransomware and data breach risks, APM 2.0 will feature software volume-level encryption and expanded backup destinations including Azure Blob Storage and Synology NAS vaults.

In terms of future developments, Synology is set to implement AI-based anomaly detection and malware scanning through the upcoming APM 2.1 to detect any corrupted backups and provide clean state rollbacks. In relation to the growing importance of data security, Jia-Yu Liu, Executive Vice President of the Synology Data Protection Group said, “Managing fragmented backup infrastructure drives up costs and slows recovery. The ActiveProtect appliance unites purpose-built storage with powerful data management software into a single, predictable investment,” adding that, “APM 2.0 builds on that value, enabling organizations to safeguard their entire hybrid infrastructure through one centralized, scalable solution.” Now available across all DP Series appliances, ActiveProtect Manager 2.0 reinforces Synology’s commitment to offering an all-in-one, enterprise-ready platform that effectively unifies storage efficiency, centralized management, and proactive security.
