Cohere Unveils Rerank 4 to Redefine Enterprise Search with Broader Context and Smarter Ranking

Related stories

Cohere has launched Rerank 4, its most advanced reranking model designed to significantly elevate enterprise search and retrieval accuracy by dramatically expanding the context window and improving semantic relevance across longer documents and complex queries, marking a key milestone in AI-driven search solutions. Rerank 4 now supports a 32K context window, four times larger than its predecessor Rerank 3.5, enabling the model to “handle longer documents, evaluate multiple passages concurrently and capture relationships across sections that shorter windows would miss,” which greatly enhances ranking precision and confidence in relevance for real-world document types. The new model is offered in two variants Fast, which balances high speed with strong accuracy for use cases like e-commerce, programming, and customer service, and Pro, optimized for deep reasoning, precision and analytical tasks such as risk modelling and data analysis.

Cohere explains that these upgrades are vital as enterprise AI agents increasingly need richer context to complete multi-step tasks, with rerankers playing a crucial role in refining initial retrieval results to improve overall search outcomes. Rerank 4 continues to support over 100 languages, including leading business languages, and addresses the limitations of some bi-encoder embeddings by using a cross-encoder architecture that processes queries and candidates together to capture nuanced semantic links and surface the most relevant results. The model has a self-learning feature. This lets users customize it for their most used areas without needing extra annotated data. It works like modern foundational models that adjust to user preferences. This improves retrieval quality over time. Cohere highlights that Rerank 4 works well with current search systems. This includes hybrid, vector, and keyword-based setups. It needs only a few coding changes. Benchmark results show great performance compared to other reranking models in finance, healthcare, and manufacturing. This positions it as a key asset for businesses seeking better AI search and agentic performance.
