Varonis Systems, Inc., a global leader in data security, announced that it has acquired SlashNext, an AI-native email security provider recognized for its industry-leading detection rates against advanced phishing and social engineering threats.

Founded by Atif Mushtaq, one of the principal architects behind FireEye’s core malware sandbox technology, SlashNext leverages predictive AI to identify evasive attack tactics, eliminate threats from user inboxes, and protect against multi-channel phishing campaigns.

With cybercriminals increasingly using social engineering across platforms such as email, WhatsApp, Slack, and Microsoft Teams, this acquisition allows Varonis to deliver CISOs a unified, end-to-end threat detection and response solution that neutralizes attacks early in their lifecycle.

“The acquisition of SlashNext is a natural evolution of our platform and significantly expands our total addressable market,” said Yaki Faitelson, CEO and Co-Founder of Varonis. “By connecting the dots between email, identity, and data we will dramatically increase the value of our MDDR service and help customers stop threats in their inbox, where many data breaches begin.”

“At SlashNext, we built a fast, automated solution to stop advanced threats across communication channels,” said Atif Mushtaq, Founder and CPO of SlashNext. “I’m excited to join the Varonis team on their mission to protect the world’s data, giving customers end-to-end protection from the first point of attack to the last.”

Expanding Email Security for the AI Era

The global email security market is projected to grow from $5.2 billion in 2025 to $10.7 billion by 2032, fueled largely by the surge of AI-driven phishing and business email compromise (BEC) attacks.

SlashNext’s platform is built on advanced predictive AI models that integrate computer vision, natural language processing, and virtual browsing technologies. This enables protection against a broad spectrum of human-targeted risks across multiple communication channels.

In an independent evaluation of cloud email security providers conducted by the Tolly Group, SlashNext outperformed leading competitors, including Abnormal Security and Mimecast. The results highlighted SlashNext’s superior overall detection accuracy of 99% and a perfect 100% detection rate for BEC and QR code–based attacks.
