Three seconds! This represents how much of your voice an AI speech synthesizer needs to generate a complete clone. Illegitimate cloning and speech synthesis technologies are improving at an incalculable rate of change and, unfortunately, are already commoditized and ubiquitous. This next wave of AI fraud is ready to attack the most vulnerable side of our minds: the threat of our loved ones being in danger.
Truecaller, the world’s leading global communications platform, is proud to announce the latest volley in its arsenal of spam and fraud-fighting skills: the AI Call Scanner . AI Call Scanner is trained to detect and differentiate between human voices and AI-synthesized voices, empowering people to protect themselves against potential scams and fraudulent activities.
AI Call Scanner is built into the Truecaller Android app, is part of the Premium subscription, and is launching in the US first, with plans to roll out worldwide. The system was designed with simplicity and efficiency in mind. If a person receives a suspicious call, all they need to do is tap a dedicated button on the Truecaller interface. The caller’s voice is recorded and this voice sample is then processed by our advanced AI model, which has been rigorously trained to identify specific characteristics of human speech and distinguish it from AI-generated voices. All of this happens in just a few seconds and we are proud to carry out this launch with a certain degree of precision.

“The risks of AI voice fraud are increasing due to the proliferation of AI voice synthesizers. Our goal was to find an effective and reliable solution before things got out of control. I’m very proud to announce that Truecaller is the world’s calling app with built-in AI voice detection. Truecaller already uses AI in several different ways and this was a logical and much-needed extension of Truecaller’s fraud-fighting abilities,” said Alan Mamedi, CEO and co-founder of Truecaller .
While AI Call Scanner will launch on Android first, we are already exploring avenues for further improvements and expansion, including an imminent launch for iOS. Our team is actively researching ways to refine the accuracy of AI models, reduce response times, and adapt to emerging trends in speech synthesis technology. Additionally, we are considering the potential integration of AI Call Scanner with other communication platforms and devices to expand its reach and impact; for example, creating a chatbot where people can forward recorded videos for detection.
