Perplexity has introduced a new feature called Email Assistant, available exclusively to Perplexity Max subscribers, aiming to turn the email inbox into a more proactive productivity tool. Drawing on earlier successes with its Comet Assistants which have driven users to accomplish 3-18× more questions and tasks per day the Email Assistant integrates directly with Gmail and Outlook across devices to automate tedious inbox chores: drafting replies, organizing mail, scheduling meetings, and more. It adapts to the user’s tone and priorities, uses smart labels to distinguish completed, attention-required, and action-oriented messages, and suggests meeting times based on calendar preferences—all while emphasizing security (SOC 2 and GDPR compliant) and ensuring that it never trains on the user’s data.

Users can start using Email Assistant by signing up, then emailing so that the assistant can recognise the user and begin working. It can be CC’d on conversations to manage back-and-forth email exchanges in an individual’s style. The Assistant also supports high-level inbox queries such as: “What emails should I prioritize before my board meeting?”, “Summarize all messages about the Q4 budget.”, “Show me anything urgent from the design team this week.” Perplexity pitches this tool as a way to reclaim time from routine correspondence and free users to focus on deeper work, meaningful relationships, and strategic thinking.
