OpenAI, Oracle, and Vantage Data Centers have announced plans to develop a state-of-the-art AI data center campus in Port Washington, Wisconsin, named “Lighthouse.” This facility is part of the broader Stargate initiative, a $500 billion U.S. government-backed project aimed at bolstering the nation’s artificial intelligence infrastructure. The Lighthouse campus will consist of four advanced data centers, collectively providing nearly one gigawatt of AI processing capacity. Construction is slated to commence shortly, with completion expected by 2028. The project is anticipated to generate over 4,000 skilled construction jobs, predominantly unionized, and more than 1,000 permanent positions upon completion, alongside thousands of additional indirect employment opportunities.

In line with sustainability goals, the Lighthouse campus will operate on 100% zero-emission energy, sourced from local solar, wind, and battery storage projects. Seventy percent of the energy produced will be dedicated to the campus, with the remainder available to Wisconsin consumers. The facility will employ a closed-loop liquid cooling system to minimize water usage and will invest in local water restoration projects to achieve water positivity. Additionally, the development will preserve and enhance local biodiversity by planting over 2,000 native trees and implementing sound mitigation measures. The project is also pursuing LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certification, underscoring its commitment to sustainable building practices. This initiative is expected to contribute approximately $2.7 billion to the regional GDP and includes significant investments in local infrastructure upgrades, such as enhanced water and wastewater treatment facilities and power infrastructure improvements.
