OpenAI has introduced Prism, a free, AI, native scientific writing and collaboration platform aimed at speeding up research workflows by embedding its most powerful reasoning model, GPT, 5. 2, right into the drafting and revising of research papers. This new cloud, based, LaTeX, native workspace reunites the previously scattered research tasks ranging from writing to handling citations, equations, figures, and references in one single environment, thus solving the inefficiencies that have persisted for a long time in the scientific workflows. Initially launched as an academic writing platform under the name Crixet, OpenAI has taken it over and through a series of upgrades converted it into the current Prism tool. Besides communicating with AI through a separate chat interface, the system in fact provides researchers contextually with the help of AI.

According to OpenAI, Prism’s AI integration directly augments scientific reasoning, allowing researchers to “chat with GPT-5.2 Thinking, to explore ideas, test hypotheses, and reason through complex scientific problems in context” and to “draft and revise papers with the full document as context, including surrounding text, equations, citations, figures, and overall structure.” The platform, in addition, allows users to add relevant literature on the fly and increase their output by converting diagrams and equations to structured LaTeX without doing it manually. By integrating writing, automation, and collaboration within a single workspace, Prism’s goal is to lessen the interruption when researchers have to switch between different tools, a trouble which has been there for years in research environments, and to speed up the progress of science.
