OpenAI announced its acquisition of Statsig, a leading experimentation platform trusted for A/B testing, feature flagging, and real-time decisioning. This strategic transaction brings Statsig’s renowned technology and its founder into OpenAI’s growing Applications organization.

In this role, Raji will lead product engineering for ChatGPT and Codex, responsible for core systems, infrastructure, and Integrity.

OpenAI highlighted Raji’s entrepreneurial vision and operational prowess, drawing on his experience building and leading large-scale consumer engineering teams. His background includes founding Statsig and over a decade of leadership at Meta.

Fidji Simo, CEO of Applications at OpenAI, commented “Vijaye has a remarkable record of building new consumer and B2B products and systems at scale. He’s joining at a time when our models are opening entirely new ways to build, and his leadership will help turn that progress into safe applications that empower people with many new tools to improve their lives, help companies increase their impact and allow developers to build faster and better products.”

As part of the acquisition, OpenAI is bringing the trusted Statsig experimentation platform in-house. OpenAI will accelerate experimentation across its Applications organization to build more responsive, high-quality products for people and businesses.

Vijaye Raji shared his enthusiasm for the new role: “Joining OpenAI as CTO of Applications is an extraordinary opportunity to bring my experience scaling consumer and enterprise products to a mission I deeply believe in: advancing AI in ways that are capable of solving hard problems, reliable, and truly beneficial to people everywhere. The journey with Statsig has been deeply gratifying, leading me to this moment and giving me conviction that we will continue helping teams ship better software every day.”

Upon closing, all Statsig employees will join OpenAI and will continue serving their customer base from their Seattle office. OpenAI stated that it will take a measured approach to integration to maintain continuity for current customers and allow the team to continue excelling at what it does best. The acquisition remains subject to customary closing conditions, including receipt of regulatory approval.
