Meta has officially announced the launch of Muse Spark, the inaugural model from its newly formed Meta Superintelligence Labs (MSL). Representing a foundational shift in the company’s artificial intelligence roadmap, Muse Spark arrives as a natively multimodal reasoning model designed to integrate seamlessly into the daily lives of billions of users across the Meta ecosystem.
Developed over a rigorous nine-month period under the internal codename “Avocado,” Muse Spark is the first product of a ground-up overhaul of Meta’s AI training stack. Led by Chief AI Officer Alexandr Wang, the MSL team scrapped previous architectures to build a more efficient, high-performance infrastructure capable of advanced reasoning with significantly lower computational overhead.

“Today we’re releasing muse spark, the first model from MSL. nine months ago we rebuilt our ai stack from scratch. new infrastructure, new architecture, new data pipelines. muse spark is the result of that work, and now it powers Meta AI,” said Wang in a social media post. “Muse Spark is the first model in our new Muse series a deliberate and scientific approach to model scaling where each generation validates and builds on the last before we go bigger.”
A New Standard for Multimodal Interaction
Unlike previous iterations, Muse Spark is built to process text, audio, and visual data simultaneously. This “see and understand” capability allows the AI to interpret real-world contexts through a camera lens ranging from identifying nutritional data on a snack shelf to assisting with home decor via a new “Shopping Mode.”
Shengjia Zhao, Chief Scientist at Meta MSL, highlighted the model’s mission: “Excited to share what we’ve been building at Meta Superintelligence Labs! We just released Muse Spark, our first AI model. It’s a natively multimodal reasoning model and the first step on our path to personal superintelligence. We’ve overhauled our entire stack to support scaling, and this is just the beginning.”
Advanced Reasoning with ‘Contemplating Mode’
To address complex queries, Meta is introducing a tiered reasoning system. While “Instant” mode handles casual tasks with high velocity, the new Contemplating Mode utilizes parallel agents to dissect and solve multifaceted problems. By orchestrating multiple AI agents to work in tandem, the model can deliver research-grade responses for scientific, mathematical, and health-related inquiries without the latency typically associated with deep-reasoning models.
Meta’s emphasis on health reasoning is particularly noteworthy. Trained with input from over 1,000 physicians, Muse Spark sets a new benchmark for interpreting medical charts and answering health-related questions.
The Path to Personal Superintelligence
The release of Muse Spark signals a departure from Meta’s traditional open-source strategy, as the model remains proprietary to ensure safety and performance as the company scales toward its ultimate vision.
“We are on our way to personal superintelligence: an assistant that can help anyone, anywhere with the things that matter most to them,” Meta stated in its official communication. “Shopping mode draws from the styling inspiration and brand storytelling already happening across our apps, surfacing ideas from the creators and communities people already follow,” the company added.
