AWS Introduces Amazon Connect Health to Bring Agentic AI Into Healthcare Workflows

Related stories

Amazon Web Services (AWS) has launched Amazon Connect Healthan agentic AI solution specially made for healthcare organizations that can facilitate the automation of healthcare administrative tasks at a large scale and help customer engagement in the healthcare sector. The platform’s focus is to lessen the work clinicians and healthcare staff have to do, enhance the patients’ access, and raise the quality of care in general. The solution lets healthcare providers spend more time with patients and less time dealing with paperwork or figuring out different systems by placing smart automation right inside the workflows of healthcare.

Worldwide healthcare systems are increasingly becoming burdened with administrative complexities, such as patient scheduling, insurance verification, and documentation and coding. It is a known fact that mainly staff members spend a large chunk of their working hours shuffling through numerous systems in order to fetch patient data and accomplish regular tasks which in turn, impairs the time allotted for patient interaction. With this problem in mind, AWS came up with a service called Amazon Connect Health. It aims at providing an answer by cleverly embedding AI features in the daily tools that healthcare workers are already using, rather than offering yet another separate tool to handle.

The platform enhances Amazon Connect, AWS’s AI, driven cloud contact center platform that is trusted by thousands of businesses globally and handles millions of customer interactions every day. Now with the help of this healthcare extension, AWS will be offering the patient engagement capabilities of healthcare providers at a very advanced level along with industry, grade security and availability. New AI, Powered Tools for Patient Interaction and Clinical Assistance Amazon Connect Health is the result of combining AI, driven technologies that targeted healthcare operational challenges. These technologies include conversational patient verification, AI, powered appointment scheduling, automated clinical documentation, patient insights, and intelligent medical coding. The platform supports both Electronic Health Records (EHR) and other clinical systems to enable a smooth workflow and minimize manual data input. One of its main features, patient verification, permits healthcare providers to validate identities and automatically access patient files, hence doing away with lengthy manual searches. Appointment management gives patients the freedom to smoothly book, cancel, or reschedule appointments via natural language voice interactions, thus allowing round, the, clock service and cutting down on scheduling support wait times.

There are also some clinical aspects of the platform. For instance, it has features for passive documentation that record patient, doctor conversations and simultaneously produce organized medical notes. Furthermore, from the clinical documentation, it can offer suggestions for medical coding using ICD, 10 and CPT codes. This way, it helps speed up the revenue cycle and lowers the administrative tasks.

Built for Healthcare Developers and Technology Partners

Beyond healthcare providers, Amazon Connect Health also targets healthcare technology companies, independent software vendors (ISVs), and EHR platform developers. Through a unified software development kit (SDK), builders can integrate AI-driven capabilities directly into their existing healthcare applications without requiring major system changes.

This modular design allows organizations to gradually add AI features such as patient insights or automated coding without rebuilding their core systems. By simplifying integration, AWS aims to help healthcare technology providers accelerate development cycles and reduce the engineering overhead associated with implementing advanced AI features.

Trust, Transparency, and Responsible AI

Trust remains a critical factor in healthcare AI adoption. To address this concern, Amazon Connect Health includes traceability features that allow clinicians to review the source data behind every AI-generated insight, clinical note, or billing code. Each AI output links directly to the transcript or patient chart information used to generate it, enabling clinicians to verify the accuracy and reliability of the results.

The system combines several AI techniques—including supervised fine-tuning, reinforcement learning, large language model reasoning, and information retrieval—to deliver accurate insights aligned with healthcare industry guidelines. AWS also emphasizes responsible AI practices, implementing validation processes and testing frameworks designed to meet healthcare standards for safety, robustness, and compliance.

Early Adoption Across Healthcare Organizations

Several healthcare organizations and technology partners have already begun deploying Amazon Connect Health capabilities within their workflows.

Netsmart reported strong adoption of the platform’s documentation features.

“Since deploying Amazon Connect Health, Netsmart has seen ambient documentation adoption increase by 275% across our network of more than 1,300 client organizations. Providers are spending less time on administrative tasks and more time with patients  and we’re seeing that translate directly into improved staff retention.”  Matthew Arnheiter, SVP Innovation, Netsmart

Veradigm is integrating the platform’s capabilities within its Electronic Health Record environment to support clinical documentation and AI-driven insights.

“We are collaborating with AWS on purpose-built offerings across the healthcare AI stack. Amazon Connect Health’s ambient capability is pre-integrated into our Electronic Health Record (EHR), enabling clinical documentation and saving hours of time for clinicians daily. We intend to expand this collaboration with newer agents such as medical coding and patient insights. Building performant agents require a robust AI-ready data foundation. We have selected HealthLake as our Agentic AI data and API layer, which underpins multiple applications ranging from patient insights to care coordination. We are migrating our historical data spanning decades into HealthLake, enabling us to real-time stream data from EHR systems to power interactive applications and workflows. This transformation empowers our teams to build world-class agents, freeing them from managing the underlying agentic data infrastructure.“  Tehsin Syed, CPTO, Veradigm.

Similarly, Greenway Health views the solution as an important step forward in healthcare-focused AI innovation.

“Greenway has earned the trust of ambulatory practices by staying focused on practical innovation and AWS has been a key partner in that journey. We have a long track record of innovating with AWS, including work with AWS HealthLake to advance interoperability and accelerate our agent capabilities. Amazon Connect Health represents an important next step for AI in healthcare, and Greenway is impressed by AWS’s healthcare-specific design and emphasis on responsible AI and trust. Greenway is excited to partner with AWS to continue embedding agent experiences such as AI-powered scheduling, patient insights, and medical coding into Greenway workflows, helping clinicians work more efficiently.”  David Cohen, CPTO, Greenway Health

Expanding Human-AI Collaboration in Healthcare

Healthcare organizations implementing the platform are already experiencing, progresses in operational efficiency and productivity of clinicians. For instance, a care provider Pelago found out that they could reclaim hundreds of clinician hours each month when they went live with Amazon Connect Health’s point, of, care features which resulted in staff spending more time being focused on patient relationships and treatment outcomes. Ultimately, AWS aims at Amazon Connect Health as a platform that supports deeper collaboration among clinicians and AI systems. Therefore, rather than substitute human skills, the technology is a digital assistant that can perform tedious administrative tasks, reveal the most up, to, date patient information, and aid better and more informed decision making during patient care.
