Elastic, a search firm, leading in the enterprise search space, has entered into a new strategic partnership with OpenAI to assist businesses in creating production-grade AI applications and autonomous agents based on secure corporate data. The joint venture enables the deployment of accurate AI with the integration of vector search, hybrid retrieval, and permission control of Elasticsearch with reasoning capabilities of OpenAI.
Solving the Context Gap in Unstructured Business Data
Autonomous AI agents rely immensely on the richness and quality of the enterprise context which they have access to. Nevertheless, gaining access to this knowledge base proves to be quite a task for contemporary IT organizations. As per industry research by Gartner® reports, unstructured content, which includes internal documents, support tickets, system logs, telemetry metrics, and security alerts comprises between 70% to 90% of all corporate data.
As such, the dynamic nature of this data coupled with strict user access controls makes pre-packaged AI agents unable to produce precise and dependable results without an additional data retrieval layer.
Elasticsearch serves as a solution to this problem, acting as a highly performant retrieval system. The platform brings together lexical and vector searches alongside semantic re-ranking and real-time filters along with native RBAC. This guarantees that the autonomous AI agents have access to permission-verified data in real time while consuming fewer tokens and minimizing the risk of hallucinations.

Key Enterprise Outcomes and Roadmap Initiatives
The expanded alliance centers on accelerating three core functional outcomes for joint customers:
- Context Aware Enterprise Agents: Utilizing permission-aware AI agents to retrieve contextual business information efficiently while ensuring efficient resource utilization.
- Agentic Observability: Automating telemetry correlation and root cause analysis of Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) for reducing mean-time-to-resolution (MTTR).
- Agentic Security Operations: Facilitating SOC workflows by transforming huge numbers of security alerts into evidence-based threat investigations for analyst review.
Taking forward their journey of collaboration since 2023 when Elastic AI Assistants were connected to Elastic, the two companies intend to align technically in security, observability, and developer workflows.
As part of OpenAI Daybreak Cyber Partner program, Elastic intends to integrate the domain specific GPT-5.5 Cyber models within Elastic Security workflows. This will enable extending the governance framework to OpenAI platform as well as detecting any anomalies within the AI model activity apart from other endpoint and network threats. Additionally, Elastic is developing integration pathways for OpenAI Codex, giving developers real-time, governed access to unstructured enterprise repositories during code generation.
