AMD secures more than 500 megawatts of U.S. capacity to support end customer deployments beginning in 2027, with the ability to expand up to 2.5 gigawatts
In a partnership, AMD, a semiconductor company, and Core Scientific, a digital infrastructure firm, have teamed up in an effort to cater to the emerging needs of artificial intelligence compute in the coming days. As part of the deal, AMD will be getting up to 2.5 gigawatts (GW) of high-density data center capacity from Core Scientific for rapid deployment of their AI compute products.
Starting in 2027, the first phase will allow the AMD community access to more than 500 MW of data center capacity in the United States. Beyond capacity access, the two companies will jointly collaborate on physical facility architecture, custom power engineering, and the seamless integration of AMD Instinct™ GPUs, EPYC™ CPUs, and ROCm™ software environments.
Addressing the High-Density AI Infrastructure Bottleneck
With increasing enterprise deployment of generative AI and large language models, availability of power from the electricity grid, prime land, and dense cooling has increasingly emerged as the biggest constraint for high-performance computing infrastructure. This multi-gigawatt infrastructure will help to address this challenge by providing cloud hyperscalers, enterprises building models and AI developers direct access to infrastructure optimized for AMD silicon.
As part of the commercial terms, AMD will also receive market-priced warrants to purchase shares of Core Scientific common stock, tied to specific operational and commercial milestones.
