Qualcomm Technologies, Inc. and Google announced that an optimized Chrome browser for Windows PCs powered by Snapdragon will roll out starting today, in advance of the release of PCs powered by the Snapdragon® X Elite compute platform in mid-2024.

Chrome is the world’s most popular browser and it’s continually enhanced with new features, performance and security updates, including experimental generative AI features.

“We’ve designed Chrome browser to be fast, secure and easy to use across desktops and mobile devices, and we’re always looking for ways to bring this experience to more people,” said Hiroshi Lockheimer, Senior Vice President, Google. “Our close collaboration with Qualcomm Technologies will help ensure that Chrome users get the best possible experience while browsing the Web on current ARM-compatible PCs.”

The two companies have been partners on Android phones since the very first device in 2008. Snapdragon chipsets also power many wearables with Google software, and the two companies reaffirmed their collaboration for upcoming XR devices in January.

“The new version of Google Chrome will help cement Snapdragon X Elite’s role as the premier platform for Windows PCs starting in mid-2024,” said Cristiano Amon, President and CEO, Qualcomm Inc. “The PC industry is on the cusp of an inflection point, and as we enter the era of the AI PC, we can’t wait to see Chrome shine by taking advantage of the powerful Snapdragon X Elite system.”

In preliminary tests using Snapdragon X Elite reference devices, the new Chrome is showing a dramatic performance improvement in the Speedometer 2.1 benchmark.

Chrome for Windows on Snapdragon is downloadable now for anyone with an existing Windows on Snapdragon device.
