Astera Labs, Inc, a global leader in semiconductor-based connectivity solutions for AI and cloud infrastructure, announced a new portfolio of fabric switches, including the industry’s first PCIe 6® switch, purpose-built for demanding AI workloads in cloud-scale accelerated computing platforms. Optimized for AI data flows, the Scorpio Smart Fabric Switch portfolio delivers the highest predictable performance per watt, high reliability, easy cloud-scale deployment, faster time to market, and lower total cost of ownership.

The Scorpio Smart Fabric Switch portfolio features two application-specific product lines with a multi-generational product roadmap:

  • Scorpio P-Series for GPU to CPU/NIC/SSD PCIe 6 connections – designed to support mixed traffic head-end connections across a wide variety of PCIe hosts and endpoints.
  • Scorpio X-Series is designed for back-end GPU clusters – providing the highest back-end GPU-to-GPU bandwidth and can be customized for specific platforms.

” Hyperscalers are deploying highly specialized AI platforms at an unprecedented speed, scale, and complexity,” said Jitendra Mohan, CEO of Astera Labs . “Our new Scorpio Smart Fabric Switch portfolio is designed for two specific AI use cases – the Scorpio P-Series for extended PCIe connectivity, and the Scorpio X-Series for backend, extended GPU clusters. Scorpio provides an energy-efficient fabric solution with predictable, secure, high-performance data flow, and extensive cluster management capabilities to accelerate cloud-scale AI infrastructure deployments.”

“ Hyperscalers and AI platform providers developing systems for training and inference workloads have traditionally used PCIe switches originally designed for general purpose and storage applications. These switches can be complex, power hungry, and require long system development cycles, making them challenging for AI platforms,” said Patrick Moorhead, Founder, CEO and Principal Analyst at Moor Insights & Strategy. “With the introduction of the Scorpio Smart Fabric Switch portfolio, Astera Labs is focusing on addressing the industry’s need for higher performance, more efficient fabric solutions that are purpose-built to meet the specific requirements of AI training and inference workloads in the cloud.”

Scorpio Smart Fabric Switches extend Astera Labs‘ Intelligent Connectivity Platform and integrate with the COnectivity System Management and Optimization Software (COSMOS) suite to provide an intelligent, customizable connectivity backbone with unprecedented data center observability, enhanced security, and extensive fleet management capabilities. Scorpio provides unparalleled insight into the state and health of accelerated computing platforms, ensuring maximum uptime and availability.

The Scorpio Smart Fabric Switch has been rigorously tested with leading PCIe hosts and endpoints in Astera Labs’ Cloud-Scale Interop Lab and in customer platforms. Scorpio is now shipping in pre-production for head-end PCIe 6 connectivity and is ready to drive deployment of AI platforms with reliable plug-and-play interoperability with industry-leading GPUs, advanced diagnostics and telemetry, and comprehensive design documentation.
