Sungwoo (Chunga) Chung has joined Veeam Software as Senior Director of Monetization Strategy, marking his next career move following six years at Microsoft. Chung shared the appointment on LinkedIn, announcing that he is starting the new position at Veeam.
Chung brings experience in pricing, monetization and business planning from his tenure at Microsoft. During his time there, he worked on monetization strategies for Microsoft 365 Consumer initiatives, including Copilot Pro, which later evolved into Microsoft 365 Premium. He also played a role in Microsoft’s first global base-price increase for Microsoft 365 in more than a decade.
His work at Microsoft comes as software companies increasingly reassess how AI capabilities are packaged and priced. The expansion of AI features has created new questions for technology providers around subscription models, customer value, product tiers and the economics of delivering AI-powered services.

In his career update, Chung reflected on his Microsoft experience and noted that one of his most meaningful projects was shaping Copilot’s monetization strategy. He also highlighted the growth of the Microsoft 365 Consumer business during his tenure, including a more than doubling of its paid subscriber base.
At Veeam, Chung’s focus on monetization strategy comes as the company continues to operate across data protection, cyber resilience, data management and AI-related technologies. Veeam describes itself as a software company focused on data resilience and protecting data in increasingly AI-driven environments.
The move places Chung in a role centered on a business challenge facing much of the technology industry: developing sustainable commercial models as enterprise software evolves and AI becomes increasingly integrated into products and services.
