Google announced a series of powerful updates to Firebase Studio, its cloud-based AI workspace designed to help developers build and launch the next generation of AI-powered applications. The new features, unveiled at I/O Connect India, aim to streamline agentic development across popular frameworks and languages by integrating Google’s Gemini AI with enhanced tooling and deeper backend connectivity.
These updates include AI-optimized templates, seamless Firebase service integration, and the ability to fork workspaces for safer experimentation and collaborative development. Together, these features make Firebase Studio a more robust and intuitive platform for both novice and experienced developers.
AI-Driven Development for a Global Community
India, home to one of the world’s largest communities of app builders, was chosen as the launchpad for these enhancements. Firebase Studio is already helping developers across the region innovate quickly and efficiently.
New AI-Optimized Templates for Faster Builds
With updated workspace templates for Flutter, Angular, React, Next.js, and general Web development, developers can now take advantage of Gemini-powered intelligence directly from project creation. These AI-optimized templates launch in autonomous Agent mode, paired with a redesigned layout to accelerate developer flow.
Users can still switch between “Ask” and “Agent” modes depending on the task whether it’s generating full apps, running tests, refining features, or creating documentation. Each template also includes an airules.md file that provides Gemini with context-specific coding instructions, improving the relevance and accuracy of generated code and documentation.
Templates for additional frameworks and languages such as Go, Node.js, and .NET will be rolled out in the coming weeks.

Simplified Firebase Integration with Gemini
Firebase Studio now enables one-prompt integration of Firebase backend services. By simply describing their app’s functionality, developers using the App Prototyping Agent or AI-optimized templates can prompt Gemini to identify and incorporate the appropriate Firebase services. Gemini will handle importing packages, updating code, and guiding setup streamlining workflows with fewer clicks and zero cost to get started.
Forking Workspaces for Flexibility and Safety
The newly introduced workspace forking feature allows developers to duplicate a full project including its entire agent chat history providing a secure way to experiment, debug, or collaborate without impacting the original codebase. This promotes greater confidence in innovation and a more seamless collaborative experience among development teams.
Enhanced Prompts and Larger Project Uploads
Recognizing how developers plan and iterate outside of traditional workflows, Firebase Studio now includes a new “enhance prompts” feature that lets users collaborate more effectively with Gemini while refining project ideas. In addition, the platform has increased its project upload limit to 100MB, enabling support for larger, more complex app imports.
Building the Future of AI-Native App Development
Firebase Studio continues to evolve into a powerful AI-assisted development platform that’s accessible to all whether users are experienced engineers or first-time coders. These latest enhancements reaffirm Google’s commitment to democratizing app development through AI.
“From our recent launches to these new announcements in Bengaluru, we’re dedicated to making AI-assisted development with Firebase Studio more intuitive, faster, and delightful so anyone, anywhere in the world can bring their most ambitious app ideas to life – whether you have decades of coding experience or none at all.”
