Cline has raised $32M in combined Series A and Seed funding, led by Emergence Capital and Pace Capital, with participation from 1984 Ventures

Cline, the open-source AI coding agent redefining enterprise software development, has announced it has raised $32 million in combined Series A and Seed funding. The investment round was led by Emergence Capital and Pace Capital, with participation from 1984 Ventures, Essence VC, Cox Exponential, and notable angels including Jared Friedman, Theodore Browne, Logan Kilpatrick, Addy Osmani, and Eric Simons.

Cline is built on a simple yet powerful premise: developers deserve full control, transparency, and access to the best models for coding without compromising on performance, cost visibility, or compliance. The platform enables developers to complete complex coding tasks using natural language, whether starting new projects or working within massive, multi-million-line enterprise codebases.

More than just a tool, Cline has cultivated a thriving community, boasting 2.7 million installs across the VS Marketplace and Open VSX Registry, 48,000 GitHub stars, 48,000 followers on X, and 20,000 active Discord members. The platform is also trusted by global enterprises including SAP and Samsung.

“Cline’s unique approach to agentic coding, built on a foundation of open-source transparency, is a paradigm-shift for enterprises seeking to harness the unrestricted power of agentic AI,” said Yaz El-Baba, Partner at Emergence Capital.

Cline’s architecture empowers organizations through:

  • Transparent Pricing and Data Control – API cost visibility and bring-your-own-key infrastructure ensure no hidden costs or throttling, giving developers full freedom to leverage the best models without vendor-imposed limits.

  • Model-Agnostic Access – Seamless integration with leading models like Claude, Gemini, Grok, and Kimi-K2 enables developers to choose the optimal model for their use case. Cline also supports on-prem or local model execution for enhanced control.

  • Open Source Foundation – Cline’s open-source codebase accelerates enterprise adoption by allowing full code audits, compliance clarity, and extensibility tailored to specific organizational workflows.

Cline began as an open-source side project and quickly evolved into a mission-critical platform for developers seeking power and flexibility in their coding tools. The team challenges industry norms around inference pricing and proprietary lock-in, offering a transparent alternative that aligns with developer and enterprise needs alike.

The company now launches Cline Teams, a new enterprise solution designed to meet growing demand with features such as organization management, centralized billing, audit logs, access controls, and self-serve SaaS support. A self-hosted option will follow, aimed at organizations prioritizing compliance and infrastructure control.

Additionally, Cline is expanding into new development environments including JetBrains, terminal-native implementations, and a universal SDK. Future product enhancements will emphasize collaborative intelligence, enabling teams to share tacit knowledge embedded in prompts and workflows now considered more valuable than generated code itself.

With this funding, Cline is also investing in team growth. The company is hiring engineers, designers, and product leaders who share its commitment to transparency, developer-first design, and open-source innovation.
