Acquisition Extends Bitdefender Product and Services Portfolio with Powerful Email Protection for Businesses and MSPs

Bitdefender, a global leader in cybersecurity solutions, has announced its agreement to acquire Mesh Security Limited (Mesh), a prominent provider of advanced email security technologies. This strategic acquisition aims to integrate Mesh’s cutting-edge capabilities into Bitdefender’s Extended Detection and Response (XDR) platform and its Managed Detection and Response (MDR) services—bolstering the company’s defenses against modern email-based threats.

The completion of the acquisition is contingent upon customary closing conditions, including receiving the necessary regulatory approvals.

Email continues to be the most exploited entry point for cyberattacks such as phishing, ransomware, and business email compromise (BEC). The FBI’s Internet Crime Report 2024 revealed that BEC scams alone caused nearly $2.8 billion in losses last year. Meanwhile, findings from the 2024 Bitdefender Cybersecurity Assessment Report, which surveyed 1,200 cybersecurity professionals globally, cited phishing and social engineering as the most significant threats organizations face today.

As part of the integration, Mesh’s robust email security framework will become a core component of Bitdefender GravityZone, the company’s unified platform for security, compliance, and risk analytics. Mesh’s dual-layered defense approach—combining perimeter-level protection via a secure email gateway (SEG) with mailbox-level detection through API-based deployment—offers extended threat visibility and enhances Bitdefender’s global threat intelligence network with enriched telemetry.

The acquisition also strengthens Bitdefender’s global channel ecosystem, which includes over 41,000 channel and managed service provider (MSP) partners. Mesh complements this by delivering a centralized, MSP-optimized email security platform designed for multi-tenant environments. With 24×7 threat protection, streamlined policy enforcement, real-time insights, and seamless integration into existing systems, the solution significantly reduces operational complexity for MSPs while enhancing service delivery.

“We are pleased to announce our intent to acquire Mesh, a strategic move that will complement our GravityZone XDR platform and power our MDR service to help businesses combat email-borne threats as they continue to evolve,” said Andrei Florescu, president and general manager of Bitdefender Business Solutions Group. “Mesh brings leading-edge innovation from a deeply experienced team that shares our commitment to effective, real-world security. Together, we will further strengthen our ability to provide proven and trusted email protection to our global customer base.”

Founded in 2020 and backed by investors Elkstone and Enterprise Ireland, Mesh has rapidly become a trusted name in email security, serving hundreds of MSPs and thousands of end customers worldwide. Its reputation for high detection accuracy, MSP-centric architecture, and ease of use has positioned it as a reliable solution for organizations seeking robust protection against email-borne threats.

“This is the beginning of something even bigger,” said Brian Byrne, chief executive officer and co-founder of Mesh. “We’ve always focused on building practical, powerful email security that just works—and Bitdefender shares that same mindset. We’re excited to join forces and bring stronger protection to even more organizations.”
