Anthropic and Mozilla Collaborate to Strengthen Firefox Security Using AI

Anthropic has teamed up with Mozilla to enhance the security of Mozilla Firefox browser and has shown how powerful AI can be to discover vulnerabilities in modern software rapidly. As part of the partnership, frontier red, team researchers at Anthropic employed its most advanced AI model, Claude Opus 4. 6 to spot security vulnerabilities in Firefox that were not known before, thus assisting engineers in mitigating potential issues more promptly and raising overall resilience of the browser. Company states that collaboration has led to finding 22 vulnerabilities within two weeks, which shows the increasing impact of AI in performing automated security testing and code analysis. Out of these, 14 were categorized as high severity vulnerabilities and they amounted to nearly one, fifth of all high severity Firefox vulnerabilities that have been closed by the end of 2025.

The results appeared when Anthropic experimented with the powers of Claude Opus 4. 6 on large open, source codebases. Throughout the task, the AI model checked almost 6, 000 C++ files in the Firefox codebase and gave 112 separate vulnerability reports to Mozillas engineering teams. Mozilla developers were able to reproduce, confirm and fix the problems fairly quickly based on these reports, which shows that AI, assisted vulnerability discovery workflows are very valuable. Most of the vulnerabilities found have been fixed in Firefox version 148 that was released recently. It included fixing the security flaws that were reported and making the browser’s defenses even better. This is a clear sign of the quick changes being made that are a result of the joint work of Anthropics security research staff and Mozillas development teams. The discovered problems were taken care of responsibly before any wider disclosure.
