NetApp has announced a new capability through its collaboration with Amazon Web Services (AWS) that simplifies enterprise workflows by connecting AWS’s AI, machine learning (ML), and analytics services directly to data stored on NetApp systems, whether in the cloud or on-premises, via Amazon S3 Access Points for Amazon FSx for NetApp ONTAP. This integration allows enterprises to accelerate AI and analytics initiatives by accessing file data through the S3 API without relocating it, ensuring data remains accessible via traditional file protocols. “By connecting FSx for ONTAP data natively to AWS’s wide range of AI, ML, and analytics services, the new integration with Amazon S3 Access Points unleashes the potential to connect to more than 100 exabytes of enterprise data stored on NetApp systems for transformative use cases like generative AI and analytics uses cases built on AWS,” said Pravjit Tiwana, Senior Vice President and General Manager, Cloud Storage and Services at NetApp, highlighting the strategic potential of this native connectivity.

The capability also enhances hybrid cloud operations through ONTAP’s built-in replication and cyber resilience features such as real-time ransomware detection and integrated snapshots. Jasdeep Singh, Research Manager at IDC, added that the tight collaboration allows organizations to combine cloud scale with NetApp’s proven data management to drive innovation, giving enterprises tools to operate efficiently and adapt amid evolving demands. By enabling S3-like access to FSx for ONTAP file systems and avoiding costly data migrations, this solution streamlines AI adoption while maintaining robust security and data governance, marking a significant step forward in integrating enterprise data estates with advanced cloud services.
