OpenAI has announced a significant expansion of its ChatGPT platform, introducing a new generation of interactive applications that seamlessly integrate with the chatbot. Introduction of Apps in ChatGPT
OpenAI has launched a suite of applications within ChatGPT, allowing users to engage with services like Booking.com, Canva, Coursera, Expedia, Figma, Spotify, and Zillow directly through natural language interactions. These integrations enable users to perform tasks such as designing presentations, booking travel, creating playlists, and browsing real estate listings all within the ChatGPT interface. The integration is initially available to logged-in users outside the European Union on Free, Go, Plus, and Pro plans, with plans to expand to EU users in the near future.
Developer Tools and App SDK
To facilitate the creation of these integrations, OpenAI has released the Apps SDK in preview. Built on the open standard Model Context Protocol (MCP), the SDK allows developers to build and test applications that function within ChatGPT. Developers can access guidelines, example apps, and testing tools through OpenAI’s developer portal. The company plans to begin accepting app submissions for review and publication later this year and will introduce monetization options for developers.
