Julie Tang has joined OpenAI after an extended career at Amazon Web Services (AWS), taking on a new role focused on the AWS partnership from OpenAI’s side within global partner marketing.
Tang announced the move on LinkedIn, describing it as a new challenge after what she called an “incredible chapter” at AWS. She said her new focus will be on the AWS partnership and that she is looking forward to continuing the relationship from a different position.
The move is notable because AWS and OpenAI have been expanding their relationship as enterprises increasingly look for ways to deploy advanced AI through existing cloud environments. OpenAI’s partner network lists AWS among its global partners, while the companies have also expanded collaboration around OpenAI models and enterprise AI infrastructure.

Tang’s previous experience at AWS included work around strategic technology partnerships and partner marketing. Her public profile shows involvement in major AWS partnerships, including work connected with NVIDIA and the broader AI ecosystem.
Her transition comes as partner marketing becomes increasingly important in the enterprise AI market. Technology companies are no longer competing only through individual products or models; partnerships between cloud providers, AI developers, infrastructure companies and systems integrators are becoming an important part of how enterprise technology reaches customers.
OpenAI’s current partner-marketing organization reflects this shift. The company is hiring roles dedicated to joint go-to-market programs with AWS, covering areas such as co-selling, marketplace initiatives, campaigns, customer stories, field programs and executive engagement.
The broader relationship also comes as businesses move from AI experimentation toward production deployments. This requires more than access to models, with organizations increasingly focused on infrastructure, integration, governance, workflow changes and adoption.
For Tang, the move represents a change in perspective within a partnership she has previously worked on from the AWS side. Her transition to OpenAI places her on the other side of the relationship at a time when cloud and AI partnerships are becoming increasingly central to enterprise technology strategies.
