Mimecast, a global leader in managing human and AI risk, has announced a significant leap forward in email security by making its complete email security protection stack available through API deployment a move that directly addresses a long-standing trade-off in the market where integrated cloud email security (ICES) solutions prioritized fast deployment over comprehensive threat coverage. Unlike standalone ICES offerings that quietly lean on native Microsoft or Google controls to manage everyday threats, Mimecast’s API deployment delivers the full detection stack encompassing deep URL inspection, malware sandboxing, and advanced behavioral AI directly through Microsoft 365 integration that goes live in minutes, without requiring MX record changes or mail flow modifications.

The urgency of this advancement is underscored by the company’s own State of Human Risk 2026 report, which found that 64% of organizations acknowledge native collaboration tool security controls are insufficient, while 53% report rising phishing volumes and 48% see escalating business email compromise (BEC) attacks that existing solutions fail to stop at scale. Mimecast’s AI-driven detection engines, trained across 24 trillion data points and tested across 42,000 organizations globally, are catching three times more BEC and credential phishing attacks compared to traditional detection methods. The solution also integrates with over 350 security vendors including CrowdStrike, Okta, and Palo Alto Networks enabling threat signals from email to flow automatically into existing security tools, eliminating alert silos and speeding up incident response. Beyond threat detection, the API deployment connects to Mimecast’s broader Human Risk platform, tying together Security Behavior Management, Insider Risk Management, Data Protection, and Governance Compliance into a unified view of organizational risk. As Ranjan Singh, Chief Technology and Product Officer at Mimecast, put it, “Standalone ICES vendors secure email. Mimecast secures the human behind it,” adding that the company has “invested in AI and detection engineering that the market said couldn’t be delivered through API architecture.” Mimecast’s API-based Email Security is now available globally.
