Zscaler Strengthens Browser Security with Strategic Acquisition of SquareX

Related stories

Zscaler, Inc., a cloud security and Zero Trust architecture worldwide leader, announced today the purchase of SquareX, a next, generation browser security company, bringing deeper Zero Trust protections to modern enterprise environments. Through this acquisition, Zscaler is speeding up the introduction of Zero Trust features to regular web browsers and making it more secure to access enterprise networks from unmanaged and BYOD devices in distributed enterprises.

With cyber threats growing in complexity and enterprises increasingly operating in hybrid and cloud-first environments, Zscaler’s integration of SquareX technology aims to redefine browser security. By enabling lightweight security extensions in mainstream browsers including Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge organizations can enforce robust protection without relying on third-party or isolated enterprise browsers.

Traditionally, users had to face a lot of dangers through legacy technologies such as the conventional Virtual Private Networks (VPNs) and costly Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) solutions, which were the means to access corporate resources from unmanaged endpoints. Zscaler broke the model with the launch of Zscaler Private Access (ZPA), which was the first to make a switch towards genuine Zero Trust connectivity. Nowadays, Zscaler keeps raising the standards of the industry in terms of secure access and device posture validation for millions of users all over the globe.

As part of this evolution, SquareX’s browser-centric approach expands Zscaler’s capabilities to protect users directly within their preferred browsers eliminating the need for full agents or third-party tools that can complicate deployments and reduce productivity.
Leadership Perspectives

“Enterprises have historically relied on legacy VPNs and VDIs, but these technologies are fundamentally flawed and laden with security risks,” said Jay Chaudhry, CEO, Chairman, and Founder of Zscaler.

“With SquareX, Zscaler is deepening our Zero Trust Exchange™ Platform’s capabilities in standard browsers, such as Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge, to stop threats without having to deploy a third-party enterprise browser. Zscaler continues to set the standard as we evolve into an increasingly powerful platform for global enterprise security.”

“By integrating with Zscaler, we will enable organizations to secure SaaS and private applications across any device managed or BYOD without compromising productivity,” said Vivek Ramachandran, founder of SquareX.

“This approach allows IT leaders to replace expensive, insecure legacy access tools with precise Zero Trust policies that protect data and AI interactions based on an organization’s specific risk profile.”

Transaction Details and Forward Outlook

The acquisition officially closed on February 5, 2026. Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed. Integration plans will focus on embedding SquareX’s browser security technology into the Zscaler Zero Trust Exchange™ platform, enabling unified policy enforcement and seamless user experience across managed and unmanaged environments.
