Microsoft announced the integration of GPT-5, OpenAI’s most advanced AI system to date, across a broad range of its products, enhancing reasoning capabilities and improving coding and chat experiences for users worldwide.

GPT-5, trained on Azure, incorporates OpenAI’s latest reasoning models alongside a smart and efficient model designed to provide the optimal tool for any task, whether in consumer, enterprise, or developer contexts.

Through Microsoft 365 Copilot and Microsoft Copilot, enterprise and consumer users will automatically benefit from powerful new AI reasoning capabilities to tackle increasingly complex tasks, while maintaining speed and creativity for everyday use cases. A real-time router ensures the right model is applied without requiring users to make a selection.

Developers will also gain access to GPT-5 across Microsoft platforms. For example, developers using GitHub Copilot and Visual Studio Code can write, test, and deploy code with OpenAI’s most capable model for coding and agentic tasks. This model can complete longer, more complex coding projects and excels at executing long-running, end-to-end processes. From now, GPT-5 will also be available in Azure AI Foundry, providing enterprise-grade security, compliance, and privacy protections, along with a built-in model router to ensure optimal model selection.

The Microsoft AI Red Team tested the GPT-5 reasoning model using rigorous security protocols to identify and mitigate potential risks before release. Testing showed that GPT-5 demonstrated one of the strongest safety profiles among prior OpenAI models, with resilience against threats such as malware generation, fraud automation, and other malicious uses.

These upgrades are available immediately, giving Microsoft’s consumer, developer, and enterprise customers direct access to GPT-5’s enhanced intelligence and reasoning power.

Microsoft 365 Copilot

With GPT-5, Microsoft 365 Copilot delivers improved performance in reasoning through complex questions, maintaining context in longer conversations, and understanding user intent. It can now handle more sophisticated problems, enabling licensed customers to analyze emails, documents, and files with OpenAI’s most advanced models to boost productivity. GPT-5 is also available in Microsoft Copilot Studio, allowing users to build custom agents capable of executing complex business processes.

Microsoft Copilot

Microsoft Copilot, the AI assistant for everyday tasks, now incorporates GPT-5 to provide precise answers, enhance writing, and generate creative outputs such as images. The new Smart mode uses GPT-5 to deliver optimal solutions. Users can try GPT-5 for free at copilot.microsoft.com or via the Copilot app on Windows, Mac, Android, and iOS.

GitHub Copilot and Visual Studio Code

GitHub is introducing GPT-5 to all paid GitHub Copilot plans. Developers can write, test, and deploy code using GPT-5 within GitHub Copilot Chat on github.com, Visual Studio Code, and GitHub Mobile. With the Azure AI Foundry extension in VS Code, developers can also build agents powered by GPT-5 without leaving the editor.

Azure AI Foundry

Azure AI Foundry now offers full access to GPT-5 models. The platform’s AI-powered orchestration layer evaluates prompts and selects the optimal model based on complexity, performance requirements, and cost efficiency, ensuring developers can maximize the capabilities of GPT-5 and other models available in Azure AI Foundry.
