AI MINDSystems Foundation announces the appointment of Melvin Greer, PhD as its Chief AI Officer. Dr. Greer is a renowned technologist, multi-sector innovation catalyst, and outspoken advocate for the Foundation’s mission to advance and protect personal data privacy and the dignity, empowerment, wellbeing, safety, and comprehensive financial inclusion of individuals, families, and communities in the data and AI economy.

Dr. Greer retired from Intel Corporation in August 2025. At Intel, he was a Fellow, Chief Data Scientist, and a core innovator driving the early adoption of advanced privacy-preservation in machine learning and AI runtime environments. He now joins the Foundation’s executive leadership team. In this role, he will drive the sweeping AI dimensions of the Foundation’s person-centered AI MINDSystems Trusted Data Ecosystem™.

“It is imperative that researchers, scientists, and developers take a human-centric approach to data and AI systems. Because data is not oil and data is not fuel. Data is people,” said Dr. Greer, expressing his alignment with the Foundation’s core philosophy. “The team at AI MINDSystems Foundation has laid the groundwork for a long-overdue, technologically-enabled revolution in the health, wellbeing, prosperity, and equity of individual people, everywhere. I’m excited to drive the mission and lead the AI dimensions of their new structural, technological, and economic paradigm,” he continued.

“The only party that should aggregate and custody the totality of an individual’s health, biometric, and massively multi-modal personal information is the individual themselves,” said Heather Leigh Flannery, Co-Founder and CEO of AI MINDSystems Foundation. “We have created the business model, economic structure, and technical architecture to achieve, sustain, and scale this. I couldn’t be more thrilled to announce that Dr. Greer is continuing his deep support for this mission as our Chief AI Officer.”

From its very beginning, Dr. Greer collaborated with the Foundation on its US veterans-facing National HERO (Health Enhancing Resource Orchestration) initiative – the program through which the AI MINDSystems Trusted Data Ecosystem is being launched. See the Intel AI Technologies Case Study on the Foundation’s plans, here: “Empowering US Heroes through Data Sovereignty, Ethical AI and Precision Health: AI MINDSystems and Intel enable a collaborative, multi-party, person-centered GenAI solution that is made compliant and possible with privacy-enhancing technologies.”

Dr. Greer possesses deep expertise in pivotal areas of AI, including AI security, sustainable infrastructure, blockchain-based AI decentralization, the economics of data and AI, and ethical AI governance focused on the empowerment of individual data subjects. His work applying advanced hardware- and software-based privacy-enhancing and verifiable computation technologies will be instrumental in accelerating the Foundation’s time to impact at scale. He was just recognized as CIO World’s “Most Admired Leader to Watch in 2025,” stating “[Dr. Greer’s] journey signals more than just technical mastery it’s a blueprint for leadership in a digital age. [He’s] bridging innovation, ethics and strategy across sectors.” Read the article linked to above to learn more about Dr. Greer’s ‘three interconnected pillars.’ These pillars include: ethical AI and societal impact; leadership and STEM education; and the hard sciences spanning synthetic biology, nanotechnology, and patented inventions.

Dr. Greer will play a crucial role in three top-priority areas:

  • Leading the development and operational oversight of the AI and data science aspects of the Foundation’s technical capabilities;
  • Providing externally-facing leadership in AI policy, advocacy, and strategic partnerships; and
  • Collaborating with his counterparts in private and public sector enterprises to facilitate early participation in the Foundation’s forthcoming WISDOM Networks™.

WISDOM Networks are a new class of utility that will serve individuals, communities, and public and private sector organizations. These replicable, interoperable utilities will enable trustworthy and verifiable data and AI, and privacy-preserving, decentralized, secure multi-party computing (sMPC).
