Sofinnova Partners and AWS Accelerate AI in Life Sciences

Sofinnova combines its industry expertise with AWS AI and cloud services to support faster growth for life sciences companies.

Sofinnova Partners (“Sofinnova”), a leading European life sciences venture capital firm with offices in Paris, London, and Milan, announces a collaboration with Amazon Web Services (AWS) to more deeply integrate AI into its investment platform and portfolio companies.

The collaboration supports Sofinnova.AI, the company’s initiative to integrate AI into its core activities, from identifying and evaluating investment opportunities to supporting the development of new businesses. At the heart of this journey is Sofia , Sofinnova’s proprietary AI platform, which will be extended beyond internal use with a new version dedicated to startup founders.

Thanks to this collaboration, startups supported by Sofinnova will have access to dedicated AWS resources and specialized technical support, which will help them accelerate the path from the early research stages to development and commercialization.

“AI is becoming increasingly relevant to the way new therapies are discovered, developed, and brought to patients,” said Antoine Papiernik, President and Managing Partner of Sofinnova Partners. “With Sofinnova.AI and Sofia, we are building capabilities that strengthen both our investment approach and the companies we support, and the collaboration with AWS demonstrates the maturity reached by this journey and our belief that the next generation of life sciences leaders will be born based on new models.”

Life sciences companies currently face concrete obstacles to AI adoption, from infrastructure costs to fragmented tools and workflows. The collaboration between Sofinnova and AWS addresses these challenges by combining Sofinnova’s industry expertise and its Sofia platform with AWS’s secure and scalable cloud services, developed specifically for the life sciences industry, making these tools more accessible and usable for startup founders.

“We are proud to support the future of life sciences innovation through this collaboration,” said Dan Sheeran, Vice President and General Manager, Healthcare and Life Sciences at AWS. “AWS has partnered with the pharmaceutical and life sciences industry for nearly two decades, and 19 of the top 20 global pharmaceutical companies trust us to manage their most sensitive research workloads. By combining AWS’s industry-specific services and solutions with Sofinnova’s track record of building and growing life sciences companies, this initiative aims to help bring new therapies and solutions to market faster and at greater scale.”

A key element of the collaboration is the development of an AWS-based version of Sofia dedicated to startup founders. So far, Sofia has been used internally across Sofinnova’s various strategies to analyze deal flow and generate insights in the biotech, medtech, digital health, and sustainability sectors. The expanded platform will offer founders access to AI-powered tools for analyzing the competitive landscape, benchmarking assets, and generating insights into partnerships and licensing.

To date, these workflows are still largely performed manually across the industry. By accelerating them and making them faster and more consistent, Sofinnova aims to help companies focus their resources on scientific and clinical advancements.

With the growing demand for AI and computing power in the life sciences, Sofinnova sees this evolution as a structural shift in the way companies are created. The collaboration with AWS is an expression of the company’s long-term strategy to integrate AI into both investment decisions and value creation, while also reducing barriers for startup founders.
