Anthropic, a leading developer of AI systems and the creator of the Claude family of large language models, announced the expansion of its internal Labs organization. This initiative is designed to incubate experimental product ideas and rapidly develop breakthrough AI-powered tools that extend Claude’s capabilities for enterprise and professional users.
As generative AI evolves at an unprecedented pace, Anthropic’s Labs will serve as a dedicated engine for testing cutting-edge concepts with early adopters and transforming successful experiments into scalable products. Existing innovations such as Claude Code, the Model Context Protocol (MCP), Claude in Chrome, and the recently released Cowork feature exemplify the type of frontier work that Labs will champion.

Anthropic describes this strategic shift as essential to navigating the distinct requirements of product incubation versus operational scaling. Products incubated by Labs will benefit from flexible exploration while maintaining alignment with Anthropic’s safety-centered development principles.
To lead this expanded effort, Anthropic announced key leadership assignments. Mike Krieger, co-founder of Instagram and former Chief Product Officer at Anthropic, will join Labs to collaborate directly with its engineering team. Meanwhile, Ami Vora, who joined Anthropic late in 2025, will assume responsibility for the broader Product organization and work closely with Chief Technology Officer Rahul Patil to scale Claude experiences that serve millions of users.
Strategic Vision from Anthropic Leadership
Daniela Amodei, President of Anthropic, commented on the evolution: “The speed of advancement in AI demands a different approach to how we build, how we organize, and where we focus. Labs gives us room to break the mold and explore,” she said. “We now have the right structure in place to support the most critical motions for our product organization discovering experimental products at the frontier of Claude’s capabilities, and scaling them responsibly to meet the needs of our enterprise customers and growing user base.”
Anthropic has emphasized the importance of balancing innovation with reliability and safety. By dedicating a team to experimental product development, the company aims to accelerate ideation while ensuring that future offerings are grounded in real-world use cases and customer needs.
