Anthropic and NEC Form Strategic Alliance to Launch Japan’s Largest AI-Native Engineering Initiative

Related stories

Anthropic and NEC Corporation have announced a landmark strategic partnership designed to accelerate AI transformation across Japan. Under this collaboration, NEC will integrate Anthropic’s Claude models to establish one of the nation’s largest AI-native engineering workforces, scaling the technology to approximately 30,000 employees throughout the global NEC Group.

This agreement marks a significant milestone as NEC becomes Anthropic’s first global partner headquartered in Japan. The two organizations will focus on the joint development of secure, industry-specific AI solutions tailored for the Japanese market, focusing initially on the manufacturing, finance, and local government sectors.

“This long-term partnership with Anthropic enables NEC to maximize the potential of AI in the Japanese market,” said Toshifumi Yoshizaki, Executive Officer and COO of NEC Corporation. “Together, we aim to create solutions that meet the high safety, reliability, and quality standards demanded by companies and public administration in Japan.”

Advancing Specialized AI for the Japanese Enterprise

This collaboration intends to offer extremely robust, industry-specific AI solutions. Apart from boosting productivity, NEC is already working on integrating Claude into its SOC services in order to counter any advanced cyberattacks. In addition, Claude, including the top-of-the-line Claude Opus 4.7 and Claude Code, will be incorporated into the “NEC BluStellar Scenario” solution.

This solution offers a full spectrum of consulting, AI technologies, and digital infrastructure that can help enterprises manage their data effectively and improve their customer experience (CX).

Cultivating an AI-Native Workforce

To back up this huge tech change, NEC is setting up a special Center of Excellence (CoE). With tech help and training from Anthropic, the CoE’s job is to raise a top-notch group of AI-enabled engineers. These guys will be using Claude Code to shorten development time and come up with big-scale innovations. NEC doing an internal “Client Zero” means the company will test its own innovations first before others. So, it will be using Claude Cowork everywhere internally to optimize business operations even before these solutions are launched to the whole market.

Deployment and Availability

The rollout of Claude to NEC Group employees worldwide is currently underway. Both companies have already begun the joint development phase for industry-specific AI solutions, signaling a new era of localized, secure AI for Japanese industry.
