Universal Robots (UR), the global leader in collaborative robot (cobot) manufacturing, has introduced the latest addition to its renowned portfolio: the UR15. Launched at Automate in Detroit, the UR15 is now available for order, with shipping scheduled to commence in June.

Unmatched Speed and Efficiency

The UR15 stands out as the fastest cobot in the UR lineup, boasting an impressive maximum TCP speed of 5 m/s. This cutting-edge speed enables faster cycle times, improved productivity, and reduced operational costs across diverse applications and industries. In pick-and-place scenarios, the UR15 delivers up to 30% faster cycle times compared to previous UR models.

Maintaining the signature lightweight construction and compact design of its predecessors, the UR15 offers enhanced flexibility for integration into constrained workspaces. This unique combination makes it an ideal solution for businesses seeking increased efficiency without compromising on space.

“For 20 years, we have been pushing the boundaries of collaborative automation, making it easier, safer and more powerful for businesses around the world,” said Tero Tolonen, Chief Product Officer. “Today, we take another step forward with the UR15, which is designed specifically for higher-speed operation with the smoothest performance in robotics today. This makes it a seamless fit for a variety of manufacturing environments and provides our extensive partner ecosystem with the opportunity to enhance existing applications and develop new, transformative solutions that take collaborative automation to the next level.”

Enhanced Motion Control with OptiMove

The UR15 is equipped with OptiMove, UR’s advanced motion control technology, which optimizes trajectory smoothness and ensures precise movements even in high-speed, high-load applications. This makes the UR15 ideal for operations requiring consistent accuracy and fluid motion.

AI-Ready for the Future

Compatible with both PolyScope 5 and PolyScope X, the UR15 is designed to seamlessly integrate AI functionalities. Through the UR AI Accelerator—developed in partnership with NVIDIA using NVIDIA Isaac’s™ CUDA-accelerated libraries and models—users can develop AI-powered applications that enhance usability and performance. The system runs on the NVIDIA Jetson AGX Orin™ system-on-module.

During Automate, 3D Infotech will demonstrate a turnkey quality control process featuring the UR15 and UR AI Accelerator, highlighting the cobot’s potential in leveraging physical AI.

Versatile and Reliable Design

Engineered for flexibility and performance, the UR15 has a payload capacity of 15 kg (33 lbs), extendable to 17.5 kg (38.58 lbs) for wrist-down applications such as palletizing. This versatility makes the UR15 suitable for a wide range of industries where efficiency, adaptability, and reliability are paramount.

Key Industry Applications:

  • Automotive: Compact footprint and full workspace utilization make the UR15 ideal for automated bin picking, machine operation, and inspection—accelerating tasks without compromising accuracy.

  • Metalworking and Machining: The UR15’s IP65 ingress protection and high load capacity ensure robust performance in demanding environments while simplifying deployment.

  • Electronics and Engineering: The cobot’s cleanroom compatibility and superior motion control facilitate high-speed picking and integration with AMR and AGV systems.

“We design our products based on the needs of our very diverse customer base. Each industry has a unique set of requirements that determine our approach to our cobots and ecosystem solutions. The UR15 will help customers solve the challenges of today and seize the opportunities of tomorrow,” said Tero Tolonen, Product Director.

Expanding the UR Series

The UR15 joins the UR20 and UR30 as part of UR’s high-performance lineup. The newly enhanced UR Series addresses the need for higher payloads, advanced capabilities, and certifications tailored for demanding environments.

In addition, UR has upgraded its trusted e-Series. The UR5e will receive a payload increase to 2.5 kg (5.5 lbs), while the UR10e—already capable of handling 12.5 kg (27.55 lbs)—will be rebranded as the UR7e and UR12e, reflecting their enhanced capacities.

“We’ve also updated our trusted e-Series,” said Tero Tolonen. “The new names better reflect their capabilities—same versatility and trusted performance, but with clearer names and more power where it matters.”
