New AI risk assistant democratizes behavioral data analysis to simplify and expedite complex insider threat investigation

DTEX Systems, the global leader for insider risk management, announced the addition of an AI risk assistant to its InTERCEPT™ platform to guide and fast-track insider investigations and decision making. The launch of the DTEX Ai³ Risk Assistant makes DTEX the first organization to leverage generative artificial intelligence (AI) for the purpose of combating insider risks and preventing data loss.

The DTEX Ai³ Risk Assistant, abbreviated Ai³ from Artificial Intelligence and Insider Investigations, is a new feature of the InTERCEPT™ platform that processes natural language to provide quick and comprehensive insight into the nuances of insider risk and intent. The assistant draws on rich behavioral telemetry from the InTERCEPT™ platform to provide guided investigations that empower analysts to ask pointed questions. Responses can detail where sensitive data is going, how it is transferred and most importantly, why; all while maintaining employee privacy.

While the DTEX Ai³ Risk Assistant leverages Microsoft Azure OpenAI, it does not facilitate direct access to a customer’s dataset. Instead, DTEX Ai³ leverages InTERCEPT’s patented Pseudonymization technique to redact personally identifiable information (PII) where necessary, thus reducing the risk of both analyst and AI bias.

“The complexity of identifying genuine insider threats is akin to finding a needle in a haystack. This is especially true of malicious insiders, who often have the skills and know-how to cover their tracks. Leveraging the data gravity and machine learning that fuels the DTEX InTERCEPT™ platform, the Ai³ Risk Assistant bypasses complex database searches and data wrangling to provide actionable insights that address the complexity of human behavior in real time,” said Marshall Heilman, DTEX Systems CEO.

“We acknowledge that many organizations are feeling AI fatigue, but this is not just another ‘co-pilot’. What sets Ai³ apart isn’t artificial intelligence, but the data science upon which it is built. DTEX’s innovative approach to data collection, underscored by behavioral enrichment, means sophisticated insider risks no longer fall through the cracks. The DTEX Ai³ Risk Assistant draws on this enriched telemetry, over 20 years of insider risk expertise and collaborative data-driven research to become a true insider risk subject matter expert.”

Insider risks are becoming increasingly costly, with the average annual cost now surpassing $16M. The 2023 Cost of Insider Risks Global Study found that it takes 86 days on average to contain an insider incident – and the longer it takes to contain, the higher the cost. The same study found that sixty-four percent of organizations view AI as “essential” or “very important” in the proactive detection of insider risks.

Today’s geopolitical climate is putting more and more pressure on organizations to proactively protect their data, people, and systems. DTEX’s Ai³ Risk Assistant fills an important gap, enabling teams to offset time and resource constraints by supplementing insider risk programs with need-to-know, data-driven insights. These new capabilities will help enterprise and federal entities safeguard critical assets against IP theft, data leakage, and other insider-related incidents while augmenting existing talent and improving security operations.

Using DTEX Ai³ Risk Assistant, analysts can also:

  • Formulate relevant search queries without requiring InTERCEPT™ platform expertise to expedite insider investigations. If an analyst asks, “Why did user X exfiltrate X sensitive IP?,” the DTEX Ai³ Risk Assistant will provide feedback and recommend additional relevant search queries to generate a comprehensive response.
  • Gain direct access to DTEX documentation for immediate step-by-step system guidance.
  • Stay on top of the latest insider risk research and DTEX i³ Threat Advisories.

DTEX Ai³ Risk Assistant is currently available “in preview” to select DTEX customers.
