Engitix Therapeutics has appointed Dr. Sonia Quaratino, MD, PhD, as Executive Vice President and Chief Medical Officer, adding senior clinical and medical expertise to its leadership team as the biotechnology company moves its extracellular matrix (ECM)-targeting pipeline toward clinical development. The appointment was announced on September 23, 2026.
Quaratino brings more than 35 years of experience spanning immunology and oncology research, clinical development, and strategic leadership across biotechnology, pharmaceutical companies, and academia. Her expertise includes chronic inflammatory diseases, autoimmunity, oncology, and the relationship between inflammation, fibrosis, and cancer.
She is already familiar with Engitix, having served as an independent Non-Executive Director on the company’s board since 2023. In her new executive role, she will take responsibility for Engitix’s clinical and medical strategy as the company advances its pipeline toward clinical development.

Before joining Engitix’s executive team, Quaratino most recently served as Executive Vice President and Chief Medical Officer at Innate Pharma. She previously held CMO roles at Georgiamune and Kymab, where she helped guide organizations through the transition from preclinical research into clinical-stage development. At Kymab, her strategic oversight contributed to the development of a pipeline that preceded Sanofi’s acquisition of the company in 2021.
The appointment comes as Engitix continues developing therapeutics focused on fibrosis, oncology, and fibro-inflammatory diseases using its human-derived ECM platform. The company has also expanded its scientific and development activities through partnerships and pipeline programs in these areas.
Quaratino’s move from the board into an executive leadership position represents a shift toward a more directly focused clinical development role as Engitix works to advance its research programs toward human trials.
