Palo Alto Networks unveiled Idira is a next-generation identity security platform that supports enterprises in the discovery, management, and governance of human, machine, and agentic identities across an expanding digital world of AI-enabled environments. It highlights the firm’s ongoing commitment to enable organizations to adapt cybersecurity solutions to keep up with the growing sophistication of identity-based threats.
Designed for the next-generation AI enterprise, Idira offers solution to broken identity management systems that often lead to security blind spots in enterprises. It brings robust privileged access management (PAM) features integrated with agentic capabilities for enterprises to extend dynamic privilege control to all identities that access sensitive resources and data.
AI adoption is exploding and our digital attack surface has dramatically increased machine and AI identities are becoming more autonomous. Traditional identity security technologies that were created for limited critical privileged end-users are being overwhelmed by the magnitude and state of today’s digital infrastructure. Idira is responding to this structure shift by applying AI-powered visibility, automated controls and end-to-end identity lifecycle governance.
The platform as explained by the company aims to enable organizations that are moving away from static access models by zero standing privileges and just-in-time enforcement for all identities. In addition, the stated aim is to be able reduce access surface exposure and thereby, strengthening the resilience of the enterprise against credential exploitation and identity-based cyberattacks.
Peretz Regev said, “Identity has become the new battleground of the AI enterprise. With adversaries now logging in rather than breaking in, every identity has become a target. Idira transforms how enterprises secure this critical asset by evolving beyond traditional PAM and integrating machine identity security to deliver comprehensive agentic identity protection. By combining the deep expertise of the industry’s original PAM pioneers with the unparalleled scale and speed of Palo Alto Networks, we are providing leaders with the precision and control necessary to govern the entire identity landscape and secure the future of innovation.”

Idira offers a number of features to enhance enterprise identity security posture like AI driven identity risk discovery flexible rules-based, automatic privilege controls and automated workflow. Idira loads onto enterprise directory to identify identity risks entitlements inheritance and access pathways, and reduces risky entitlement, and manages compliance compliance via AI-enabled policy automation.
The company also confirmed that existing CyberArk SaaS customers will gain access to expanded Idira capabilities through different upgrade paths. These enhancements include improved discovery functionality, user experience upgrades, zero standing privilege controls, and additional protections for agentic and machine identities.
Will Townsend said, “Over the past two decades, privileged access management was a vault problem. It is not anymore. The enterprise has become a sprawling mesh of human, machine, and agentic identities. To comprehend this complexity, identity must move from a checkpoint to an operating model. Palo Alto Networks is uniquely positioned with both its portfolio reach and PAM depth with CyberArk to set a new standard.”
Introduction of Idira further reinforces the current industry trends in the field of cybersecurity, where there is an increasing focus on identity-centric security models as well as zero trust paradigms. With the growing implementation of AI technologies by companies, it becomes important to secure non-human autonomous entities.
Considering that Idira is now in general availability stage, coupled with the expectation of more features in the coming months, Palo Alto Networks sees it as a key element for enterprises looking for holistic identity security and governance.
